View Full Version : Dish Network called me today????
I just had a wierd call from Dish Network. they wanted to know if a software upgrade made it to my IRD's which I have a 501 a 6000 and a 921. it sounds kinda wierd that all 3 units would upgrade at the same time. any thoughts on this from all you guy's

As far as I know DISH does not call customers and ask if they got a software update. The exception is the beta testers and a lot of that communication is done via e-mail.
Do you have caller ID and, if so, what did it show?
Could have been the security call. Sometimes they tell you your software must be upgraded and ask for those Location IDs.
Its the fraud goons they are going to audit you, thats how the first call to me went, left message saying to call about software and next thing I know its audit time. Just my .02.

NOT SURE WHY Fraud GOONS WOULD BE LOOKING AT ME $80+ a month should be a big enough bill.
as far as caller id it was a private number then they gave me a 1-888-number to call back. still seems kinda fishy to me. that is in the identity theft world we live in.
They are looking to see if all those receivers are in the same residence.
Of course, just to be sure, you could wait until they turn them off.

Thats what I did, I finally called them when they shut off all my recievers.

Uh how could getting a Location ID for a receiver be remotely linked to identity theft?

Give your phone number to a scammer, they will ask you for your Location ID, along with other personal information, and fill out a credit card application in your name. It isn't the location ID that scammers care about. They will pretend to be dish and ask you to verify other personal information, along with the location ID.
Most people wouldn't fall for it, but a few would.

The higher the bill, the more potential revenue they are missing out on if that account is stacked. I would expect a lower bill to be less likely to be stacked because the savings aren't as great for those not following the rules.

Yep, the more you spend on Dish Network, the more they punish you for it.

I'm not a mega-big customer... but I wonder if they ever call me. I tend to screen calls with caller ID, and most callers like that hang up once they get the machine, and the caller ID phone numbers & descriptions are rarely useful except to tell me it is probably a call I don't need to take.
