I know little about this subject but this is my question. I presently have one DirecTV system (RCA DRD420RE) and single LNB on dish. I am paying for Choice and locals, HBO and Show time. I am planning on adding another room. I would like to be able to view different channels at each room.
Which would be more cost-effective to stay with Direct (if so, what equipment will I need??) or go with Dish Network (what will I need??).

One more question - I have one TV that is HD ready and the other is not....should I consider a HD package??? If so why??

Appreciate any help you might be able to offer.

I would contact DirecTV and see what they offer. You say you have a single LNB dish, but that LNB may have dual outputs. If so, then just get another receiver and connect it to the second output. If not, then DirecTV would be happy to upgrade you for next to nothing, other than committing to a 1 or 2 yr programming. Only you can really decide if you are ready to get HD.

D* will definitly work with you.

How about an HDTiVO? Check here (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=45015)

As far as HD...if you have a reciever that can handle it you should be able to get free HDTV. If you are close enough to a major city (I say that because they usually have stronger signals) you should be able to get the OTA signal, which is free, if you have the right equipment. I pay for D* HD service but I know a lot of people aren't aware that with the right equipment (which does cost) you can receive free HDTV service (locals). The link below will help you see how close you are to the towers and what type of antenna you would need.
