OK, I'll be the first to admit that I don't know crap about the technical aspects beyond my 18" dish, multi-switch, and receivers. I have a question about the Local Channel Chart located here: http://www.dbstalk.com/directv.htm

The Salt Lake City stations are listed as channels 979-989. In actuality, on my receivers, they are the same as the OTA numbers: 2,4,5,7,9,11,13,14,30. When I punch in 979 on my remote, it says Channel Unavailable. What am not understanding?

All newer DirecTV recievers can map you local channels to their OTA channel numbers. So your OTA channel 2, which is KUTV-CBS, I believe, is channel 979 is being mapped to channel 2 on your recievers. On older units that cannot map the channels all locals will be in the 800's and 900's.
