Finally dumped cable and got Dish. We opted for the 625. So far, it is super. Only problem is when the phone line is plugged into the 625 there is a humming noise on the phone line. Tried three different phone jacks, new surge protection with phone and cable connections, does not do this with a regular phone connected to that jack, and it ONLY occurs when connected to the 625. This occurs even when the 625 in NOT plugged into the electrical outlet or connected to the dish.

Anything else to try or is the modem defective? Next week another tech is coming out. Wish us luck.

Even with this problem, wish we dumped Cox Cable years ago.

Thanks

Do you have DSL? If so is there a filter hooked up? If not, and its not the cord you most likely have a bad modem in the box.

Bad modem is what I think it is, but was hoping there was something I was over looking. Still use dial up. Do not really have a major need for the increase in Internet speed.

Is this a common problem with the 625? The guy who installed it had two 625's and both did the same thing to the phone line.

Hope the tech brings one with a good modem next week.

Thanks for the reply!!!!

The problem might be caused by improper grounding. Make sure that there is a ground from the ground block (or switch) to your home's electrical ground. Improperly wired electrical plugs can also cause the same problem.

An improperly grounded phone system could also be the culprit if your dish is grounded correctly.

Dial up Internet

This phone line static is there even when the 625 is NOT plugged into the electrical outlet or to the dish. Plug in another phone to that jack and no problem. Plugged the 625 into three different phone jacks and they all have the problem.

So, I think it is the modem. However, the tech had another 625 and it did the same thing. Hoped there was a filter that would do the trick. If there is something other than a new 625 to fix this, I will let the group know.

Thanks for the input.

Just to let you know, I just installed my new 625 on friday night, I have DSl at home, and I'm using the Home PNA System with my other 2 PCs in the bedrooms (In case you don;t know what it is, is simply a way to use the same DSL connection to every PC in the home connecting the devide to a USB port and connected to the Phone line).

Well, since I installed the 625 I began having problems in both PCs, they didn;t connected to the Internet, knowing that the only thing I have done different was connecting the 625 to the phone line, I removed it for a minute, immediately both PCs were connected to the Internet as usual, connected the 625 back and then I had the same problems

Knowing for sure that was the 625 modem, I just installed one DSL filter to the 625 connection, it fixed the issue immediately, so, if you know somebody that can let you use his filter for a moment, you can try, maybe even without DSL in your house, it can fix it.
