Question on WINK interactive

Is it true that an RCA remote from an older non WINK equiped RCA receiver will not perform the WINK interactive functions on a newer RCA WINK capable receiver.

I don't have an RCA unit, BUT when I watch a show and the little 'i' pops up, I hit the 'i' button on my remote to see the info..
I would think that if your remote didn't have that, then you wouldn't be able to see that Wink info.. Maybe someone knows of a work-around..
