my TV.
I have DirecTV in three rooms. One of them is to a HD Tv. That picture is pretty sound, but on one of the other TV's the picture is not all that clear as compared to cable.
They have the cable coming from the wall to the receiver, then to the VCR, then to the TV.
I have an S-Video input on my TV.
If I purchased an S-Video cable and ran it from my receiver to my TV would that improve the overall picture on my TV?
Is this possible?
Curious...

Could be a bad cable. You need to try replacing them one at a time to see if the picture improves.
It could also be the VCR. Try bypassing the VCR and see if it gets any better. Go from the wall into the receiver then from the output of the receiver to the TV. I have seen this happen on certain VCRs. Also turning the power on the VCR on will sometimes improve the picture quality and when you turn it back off the quality drops.
Anytime you use the S-video connection it should be better than the regular RCA plug output.
Another thing you could try, don't know what receiver you have but if your receiver outputs S-video and RCA plug video (yellow connector) at the same time and you have two audio outputs from your D* box, run the s-Video to the TV and the regular RCA connection to your VCR and then run one set of audio cables (red & white) to each.

I will do that.
I checked the signal meter and it was reading 82 to 88. Is that fairly sufficient?
I will have to do some of that this weekend. It is a 31 inch JVC huddled into an entertainment center...not the easiest thing to maneuver.
I have better VCR that I presently cant use with the HD Receiver, so I may try that first to see if it improves.
I just got D* at the end of July so I assume it is there basic receiver.
Thanks.
