View Full Version : Going Over to the Dark Side!
Over 12 years ago, I swore I would never pay to watch Time Warner cable again and I installed DirecTV and later Dish. However, the inability of Dish to allow me to lease a 942 has caused me to rethink my past comments. So tomorrow between 1200 and 1600 hours (that is 4 PM to many of you), Time Warner will be paying me a visit to hook up their service to our HDTV. I am going with the HD-DVR, as well as the same channels I have with DISH. Got a very comparible price to include adding in my Road Runner service. I feel the lost of several of the channels from DISH do not outweigh all the special feature cable now has to offer. I am not throwing away the DISH as of yet as I will still keep the DISH connected to the upstairs TV until I am totally convinced cable is the what they are telling me it will be. Being able to get all the local network channels in HD via the cable is one of the reasons I took their offer. OTA's just won't work in the area I live. I am going to be very critical with the cable service -- if I don't see the quality I have been promised they will be contacted to come and disconnect the box. I will let you know the outcome!

Gee, thanks for the clarification! :)
Hope the switch goes well, But somehow I just think it's a different head on the same beast.

And this was important to post because...?
I always want to know when someone swtiches a service provider! In fact I think people shoud share more of their personal decisions.
Maybe what they are thinking of naming pets or kids.
What color to paint a room ie "after years of swearing I would never paint a room antique white, I have decided that the current colors have let me down and not fulfilled their promise to be easy to clean and blend well with my furniture. blah blah blah"
Not making fun of you directly elbyj, there are just alot of posts like yours that really don't seem to be for anything.

I actually like it when people post their experiences with going back to cable especially if they give their impressions of the service compared to Dish. I thought it was very helpful when garypen switched to Comcast and gave his impressions of their DVR. His impressions have made me reconsider cable if I become dissatisfied with Dish. Without those impressions, I'd probably ONLY consider Direct as an alternative because I was SO dissatisfied with cable when I left in 1999.
I like people's experiences reported too, but unfortunately, they are of little use to me to make a informed decision. Cable companies (even the same one) vary so wildly from region to region it's hard to say that Comcast or Charter is crap everywhere. Where as Satellite is pretty much the same (minus locals quality) all across the country the opinions are more apples to apples IMO
I'll also speak up for wanting to see these. I'm have no loyalty to dish for loyalty's sake, and have considered switching to cable before as well.
At this point, my local cable doesn't come close to the HD diversity dish has, thus I'm still with Dish.
These types of informative posts are the reason that some of us read them. I find it amazing that someone has to be so critical of others posts............it's not life & death, just a past time. If you don't like what others post, don't read it.

I've been with Dish for over 5 years now. I switched from cable then when I got my first HDTV big screen and cable's picture quality sucked compared with satelite. I later moved up to DVR and then HD boxes.
I just recently moved and while in an apartment temporarily I used Comcast (HD-DVR). It was connected via DVI and while the HD channels were great, the SD one's looked like crap. When my house was done and I got back on Dish, I was newly amazed by how much better the picture was. Even the satelite HD channels looked better than the cable ones.
I truely believe the only reason cable has any market share at all is that most people do not own an HDTV and that the TV viewing experience is just not that important to them. Lets face it, satelite systems are a little more complicated than cable. But for those of us who care, "a little pain is worth the gain". :D
