Here's a new problem. When the 942 was in the process of recording an OTA program, it would not let me tune to any satellite station.

A message advised that if you want to change channels, the recording in progress must first be stopped. Of course I said No, so I was prevented from tuning to any other station, either OTA or satellite.

I understand the 942 has only a single OTA tuner so this is understandable, but with dual SAT tuners, you should be able to watch any satellite station while recording OTA.

I called Dish and they had not heard of this problem. They suspected it was a software glitch and would report it to their engineers.

Anybody else ever seen this happen?

How did you try to tune? Through the guide or by pressing channel up/down? If using channel up/down maybe there was another OTA channel on the other side of the one you were recording from?

PS - In reference to my post above, I am running Single user mode with TV2 set as my default.

I tried changing channels by directly entering the channel number on the keypad. Specifically, the 942 was recording OTA channel 10 and I entered 214 on the keypad.

I then tried entering numerous other SAT channels, all without success.

I believe the only way around this is to tune to the channel you want from the guide.

That's definitely NOT normal behavior for the 942. The 921, yes, but not the 942. Reboot your 942 and see if that solves it.

Were you recording anything on either satellite tuner at the time?

Mark,

I was only recording a single program using the OTA tuner. I couldn't reboot at the time as the recording was in progress.

Neither of the satellite tuners were in use.

I'll have to try it again to see if it reoccurs.

Well, after rebooting the 942, the problem seems to be corrected. I can now watch any satellite station while recording an OTA event.

However, the continuing check switch popups are another story.

Did you try the "swap" button ?
