I'm thinking of purchasing the Center Ice NHL package but can't seem to find any exact info on the blackout restrictions. No one seems to know! I called DISH and they just gave a canned response about games "being subject to local blackouts" which I already knew.

Basically, I just want to know if I'll be able to watch the Detroit Red Wings from where I live (Indianapolis). There are 2 other teams closer to me than Detroit (Chicago & Columbus), plus Detroit and Nashville are both 308 miles from my house so I doubt the Red Wings would be able to claim my market. Then again, my friend with the MLB package can't get the Cubs even though the Reds are an hour closer to us.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a website that explains this whole blackout craziness?

The only NHL team that claims Indianapolis as there home makret is the St. Louis Blues. All other teams will be available in NHL Center Ice

Hmm.... I may have to edit that.

I'm using these websites

directv.fxep.com
dish.fxep.com

To show which teams you get, but the 2 companies show different things. I have a strong feeling that the teams you get on your RSNs are not the same as the teams that claim you as a home market.

Ok I dunno about the Blues, but for sure the Detroit Redwings will not be blacked out so nothing to worry about there. I'm pretty sure the Blackhawks will be blacked out.

Another resource: http://www.maplenet.net/~trowbridge/rsnteams.htm

All three of these are pretty out of date.

DirecTV used to have a tool that told you your home team claims but they only have it for the NFL now.

BFG,

Thanks for the help! OK, it looks like everything will be cool. My basic question is answered so I'm happy.

I am now even more consfused after looking at those sites though. One of the sites shows the Kansas City Royals claiming my area. The Reds, Cubs, White Sox, Brewers, Pirates, and Cardinals are all closer than the Royals. Who draws these maps anyway?

Thanks so much for the help!

The respective leagues draw the maps when they negotiate the tv contracts with the assorted stations/networks.
