View Full Version : Lost About 50 Channels on my 921
I have lost many of my 119 channels and a few 61.5 channels. My three other
non HD receivers have all the channels. Tech support thinks it may be in my
line and have scheduled a visit to my house next week . All of a sudden I cannot
get CBS-HD (9483). Cannot get 140 (ESPN) or 170. Get a black screen.
Cannot get 626, 627, 639 in MLB extra innings. Missing other channels. Ran a
check switch and got an imbalanced matrix. No 61.5 on tuner 1, but have 61.5 on
tuner 2. Tech support had me disconnect the splitter and put the cable into
tuner 1 input. Check switch on tuner 1 showed only the 119 and 110 satellites.
Put the splitter back on and ran check switch and got an imbalanced matrix with
119, 110 and 61.5 on tuner 2, but only 119 and 100 on tuner 1. Ran check switch
a couple of more times and same thing. Ran check switch a day later and 61.5
showed up again on tuner 1. However, still cannot get CBS-HD. No signal on
119 transponders 10 and 18. Have signal on my three other receivers. Is this
a 921 receiver issue?

By "splitter" do you mean DP separator? Do you have DPP44 switch and using a single line to your 921? Also try swapping the two lines going into tuner 1 & 2 to see if the check switch test fails on the opposite tuner. If so it may indicated the DP separator as in the possible problem. If it remains on the same tuner all the time it might the the 921. Can you try to run two separate line from switch to receiver without the separator? However a while back there was a software issue with 921 and DPP44 switches requiring the separator in order to pass the switch test. Not sure if that was ever fixed. Also try a switch reset (I believe it's done by disconnecting all coax line to the inputs).
Yes, I meant separator. Don't know all the correct lingo. I have a DPP44 switch and
a single line. I already tried swapping the lines from the separator. Same result.
Also, I have a second line from the DPP44 switch that I am not using. Have tried
that line as well, same result. Cannot use two lines from DPP44 switch into tuner
1 and 2. Have tried that as well.

I already tried swapping the lines from the separator. Same result. If the failure is always on the same tuner then it's not the separator.
Also, I have a second line from the DPP44 switch that I am not using. Have tried that line as well, same result. Was that line connected to the first or second output of the DPP44? If the switch test spends a long time running tests then that's an indication that it's not working. During my original install the tech was getting long diag testing only to discover it failed. When it finally came up with the quick test (a few seconds) then it saw all satellites.
Did you try a switch reset?
Cannot use two lines from DPP44 switch into tuner
1 and 2. Have tried that as well.Had the same problem when I got the DPP44 and 61.5 dish. I believe only 921's must use the separator and I guess they haven't fixed that problem yet.
I do not know which output of the DPP44 that it is connected to. How do you do a switch
reset?

Don't know all the correct lingo.Suggestion to EVERYBODY:
When you don't know what you're looking at, read the frelling label.
It would certainly help the people that are helping you FOR FREE if people would make the effort.
NOTE: This is NOT directed specifically at the OP - just a general observation.
All the channels came back yesterday.
First, I lost every channel. The program guide was frozen and could not be navigated. I did a reboot by holding in the on/off button. Same result. No channels. Then I did a reboot by unplugging the unit. Everything came back. Every channel. I had previously rebooted both
ways, a couple of times, and was still missing the channels. So this was not a "line" or "switch problem. It was definitely a 921 problem. Probably some kind of software problem. This is my second 921. Probably a refurbished model. I have wasted many hours on the phone with tech support, rebooting, disconnecting cables, reconnecting cables over the last seven months with both of my 921's. Expensive consumer electronic products should not have these problems.
When this latest problem happened, it was last Wednesday night, after 10:00PM. I was driving home in my car listening to the Phillies-Braves game on the radio. It was the top of the tenth inning, score tied 6-6, bases loaded, no outs with a Phillies pinch hitter batting, rookie Shane Victorino, when I got out of my car. I ran into the house and turned on my 921, thinking I was going to watch the end of the game. But I had a black screen, saying signal was lost. I had about 75 percent of my channels, but not the game. So I called Dish tech support right away and was on the phone with them to about midnight
and could not resolve the problem. After I got off the phone, I turned on my computer
at close to 12:30AM to check the Phillies-Braves game result and saw that Victorino hit into a fielders choice with an out at home plate. Then Ryan Howard, the next batter, hit a grand
slam which turned out to be a four run margin of victory for the Phillies, 10-6.
I missed the grand slam and lost almost two precious hours with tech support, because of
some software problem with an expensive troublesome consumer electonics product. I
generally would have been asleep by 11:30.
