View Full Version : 'Fried' 501?

Well, it looks like I've caused myself a problem. I tried 'splitting' the incoming signal to go to my 625 and 501 (along with a separate line to a 510), not realizing that could cause problems (by using a cable TV splitter). The 625 worked great, but the 501 received a signal from only one satellite at a time (and would poop out after a period of time, then I'd have to run the switch check and it may see the signal from the other satellite for a while, but not both).
I installed a DPP-44 switch so I can do this the right way. I disconnected the cable from the 501, ran the switch test to clear out the entries, then connected the cable again. Now, after running the switch test, I only see the 119 satellite.
Have I completely 'fried' my 501 by hooking it up to a cable TV splitter or is there something I can do to 'reset' it to see both 119/110?
Thanks!

No, it should not have hurt it. Try reseting it by running the check switch without the cable connected(which will give you xx's), and then re-connect and rerun. Good luck.
Also try unplugging it from AC power to reset your power supply.

Scott, EACH receiver has to have a separate line from the switch, even in a DishPro Plus setup. You already have a separate line to the 510 but didn't say if you corrected the 501 and 625 problem by adding another line for the 501. You can NOT use a splitter or even a DPP Separator to feed more than 1 box.
Does the 501 work on its own line?
You need to have 1 line to the 501, 1 line to the 510, and 1 line to a DPP Separator behind the 625 (or 2 lines w/o Separator).

Each receiver has its own line now, but the 501 still only get the 119 satellite.
I've disconnected the ac (hoping to reset whatever needs resetting) and I've disconnected the cable from the dish, then run the switch check to clear that out. Then I put everything back together, ran the switch check again, but got the same results - only finding 119.
Looks like I'm in the market for a reburb 501.

That never made sense to me, why can't you? Is it a limitation in the single tuner recievers?

Are you running the DPP44 with the power inserter connected to port 1?
Does the 625 work via the DPP44?
What kind of LNB/Dish do you have? Dish500 only?

Tuner 1 sends control codes to the DP Plus switch telling it which transponder to put in the regular band and which to translate to the high band. The DPP Separator directs one band to tuner 1 and the other band to tuner 2 (I don't recall which is which) and blocks control signals from tuner 2. With separate receivers, box 1 has no way to know what transponder is being requested by box 2.
Now I understand, I was thinking the plus was more passive, maybe stacking 4 bands

Sorry - I was away from my PC the past couple of weeks.
Yes, the the power inserter is connected to port 1 and the 625 and 510 work great via the DPP44. I have a Dish500 only.

Try disconnecting ALL cables and power inserter from the DPP44 to force it to reset.

Do you have two cables running from the Dish500 to the DP44? Both LNB's of the Dish500 needed to be connected to the DP44.
