For many years I have been getting NFLST stand alone without any Directv programming. If you read the small print in their contract, this is allowed, although Directv doesn't like to tell you that.

Anyway, with the new contract 2006-2010, I've heard rumors that this will no longer be the case.

I'd hate to lose the ability to continue doing this.

If I would get NFLST, and the cancel Total Choice the next day, would I also lost NFLST?

Anyone know the future of this contract?

Dream on Sunday Ticket will require a subscription after this year.

That's too bad. It's been a good run.
Probably be at the local pub next year...

Could always just pay the $5 mirror fee at a neighbors house and bring the receiver over to my house on Sunday....

Oh the humanity...

Actually, the more I read, the more I have hope that I can continue to do this.

There is a good chance I will be grandfathered in until the point where I cancel NFLST, then I won't be able to do this. Like those that still have the Total Choice Limited package for $25..

Also the wording in the contract this year states that a directv subscritpion is required, but no longer specifies a minimum package.

So maybe one of the unadvertised packeages like DirecTv Basic ($9.99) or DirecTV Locals Only ($5.99) might suffice this contract. I know that Para Todas is OK, but that's like $25...

AT any rate, I guess I will find out next year.

Total Choice Limited has never been $25. You are probably talking about Select Choice @ $26.99. That package has been expired for a couple years now.

DirecTV Basic is not unadvertsied. It is only available if you also subscribe to one of the international programming packages (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/packages/international_services_italian.jsp).

DirecTV has not offered a locals-only package for years. Unless you were grandfathered into that package when they stopped offering it several years ago, it is no longer available.

The smallest package available now, assuming you aren't grandfathered into any expired packages, would be Total Choice Limited ($36.99 or $33.99 w/out locals) or Opcion Extra ($29.99 or $26.99 w/out locals).

I read on another form about someone downgrading to Directv basic I think...

Anyway... if you ask, there are other packages, but they might not let you get them without ordering other packages, such as the international packages...

Seems a little strange to me how they can force me to HAVE to order an international package when all I want is Directv Basic.

Now I know the law is on their side, because cable companies are not required to sell channels a la carte.. So I am forced to at least get their 40 channel analog package.

However, if a smaller package is offered, such as Directv basic, the can discriminate over who is allowed to purchase it. Yes we offer it, but only if you agree to buy more. It's like saying, OK you can buy the RAV4 instead of the Sequoia, but you have to max out all the options and get the extended warranty..

AT any rate, it seems unfair that if I want Directv for 1 reason, TV channels in Chinese, I can get the Chinese channels and DirecTv basic.

But if I want Directv for one different reason, NFLST, I must tack on another $40-some dollars for channels I will never watch.

I guess my only hope is to get grandfathered in..

Club Steeler you just have to face reality, because you want it dosen't mean you will get it. Directv is paying $550 million per year for the exclusive right to sell you NFL Sunday Ticket they need the monthly subscription to a basic packsge to make it profitable. You can't subscribe to DISH Notwerk and buy a money losing Sports Pak from the competetitor. Decide which service has what you want NFL Sunday Ticket and Opcion Extra ($29.99/Mo.) or AT-60 at $31.99/Mo. You better do it soon if you want Opcion Extra that service will disappear on OCT.6th unless you already are subscribing to it. After Oct.5th it will be grandfathered like all those other bargain services you mention. :) :) :)
