Showtime, DirecTV Take on Interactive Boxing
Get your ringside seats now, because a new innovation from Showtime and DirecTV is a main event for boxing enthusiasts everywhere. It's interactive boxing, and hopefully there wont be any punches thrown at the innocent fans of sports' sweet science.
Showtime and DirecTV are teaming up to deliver the first-ever Interactive TV Boxing portal. Showtime will launch the feature exclusively on DirecTV in advance of the pay-per-view rematch between Diego Coorales and Jose Luis Castillo on Oct. 8.
Fight fans with DirecTV interactive receivers can access the Showtime Interactive Boxing experience with the ACTIVE button on their remotes. Viewers will have access to video highlights from the first bout, stats and career highlights of both fighters, a boxing trivia game, an interactive slideshow of key moments in the first fight and analysis and preview of the rematch.
"Showtime has been the technological leader in boxing for many years, having pioneered many of the innovations we now take for granted," said Ken Hershman, Showtime sports and event programming GM. "This portal on DirecTV only scratches the surface of what we will deliver to fight fans in the coming years."
This weekend on Showtime Boxing features a heavyweight double-header with three-time world champ James "Lights Out" Toney vs. Dominick "The Southern Disaster" Guinn and Chris Byrd vs. DaVarryl Williamson. Fights start at 9:15 PM ET/PT.
