Any of you have a suggestion as to how long I should wait before I actually use DHPP to replace a hosed receiver (just signed up via the website)? I would've liked to upgrade my antique 4000s (including the DOA one) to a 522 but the mounting number of "the damn thing ate all my recordings" postings was a convincing argument against it so I guess I'm stuck with trying to get a "sorta free" refurb 301/311 from Dish.
Do I have to wait a month before I can get it replaced?

I've done it in the same call. You can safely call tomorrow and get the crispy receiver replaced.

I had the same experience as above. Called and added DHPP and had receiver replaced in the same call. Cancelled DHPP once I got the new receiver and Dish didn't even charge me for the DHPP for the short amount of time that I had it. The DHPP is imho among the greatest things since sliced bread. I just hope Dish will not change the terms of it.

Are you sure of that? I signed up on Monday (called and am getting a "new" receiver on Friday) and they not only charged me for part of this month, but also next month as well. Do they refund if you cancel (DHPP) in the middle of a billing period?

While I won't debate the morality of taking advantage the loop hole in E*'s DHPP, I will say that it is quite petty to worry about $12.

"New" (refurb) receiver showed up today. Was expecting a 301/311 but ended up with a 4900. A little more outdated but at least I keep a UHF remote and get a DD output (and the receiver definitely seems to be an improvement over the 4000). Now the problem is going to be returning the toasty 4000...it barely fits in the box the 4900 came in (and it WILL get wrecked if I try to ship it that way). I'll have to call Dish back and see what I should do.

What kind of a person thinks this is OK to do? :nono2:
If my car is unlocked, does that mean its ok for you to take stuff off the backseat and not feel bad about it?

Oddly enough... I've known people who think this sort of thing is just fine to do! And they are the same people who think they are being ripped off too... which always makes me laugh.
Like a guy I knew once who was mad because his sister thought she should get 2 Christmas presents from their mother since she was single and he was married and mom got his wife a gift! BUT, the same guy was then in the same breath complaining that his mom didn't buy him good enough gifts so that when he went to exchange them he couldn't trade for enough money to get what he really wanted!
All I could do was make a face and keep quiet.

Well its stuff like this that well end up raising the price and terms of the plan.

Yup, but the people doing it won't care cos they'll just complain alot to get discounts/credits, or cancel and move on to abuse another service provider...yet again hurting the bottom-line and possible price increases...

If you agree to stay with dish for 12 months, DHPP is free anyway so why go through all these gyrations????
