View Full Version : No audio or video on local OTA HD channel

Sometime in the last 6 months or so, we stopped getting audio and video on our local OTA digital PBS station (OPB). The signal is very high (80-110), it tunes to the channel fine (meaning, it shows the channel bar at the top and doesn't give any errors) and we get audio and video on the subchannel. We just don't get a thing on the main channel. Someone on AVSForum mentioned that this is the only local channel broadcasting in DD 2.1 and thought that might be the problem (the subchannel broadcasts in DD 2.0). Any ideas?

BTW, we have a 921 and a silver sensor antenna. I've pulled the power cord, and removed and re-added the locals on numerous occasions with no change.

Thanks,
Erin

Since you haven't specified the channel or city I can't coment directly. Go to pbs.org web site and locate your local PBS station. It sounds like their may be a problem on their end. Sometimes when they are trying to test a new subchannel the sometime appear as blank screens. If the other subchannels are working then it sounds like the 921 is ok.

A similar thing just happened with my local CBS. A delete and rescan fixed the problem.
This is not the first time this has happened. Previously it happened on my UPN (owned by the same company: Raycom). The station must have changed it's PSIP data which will cause the blank picture even though there is a strong signal.

In case anyone is interested the station that went blank yesterday was Cleveland's WOIO-DT.

Sorry, I thought I had my city listed in my profile - apparently not. :) Anyways, I'm in Portland, OR and the channel is OPB 10-1. The people on AVSForum in Portland are getting the channel fine (they are not using the 921), so I it seems to be something particular to the 921. I think I'll drop the local station an email and see if they can help.

Thanks,
Erin

Your post got me thinking and I finally realized that I wasn't completely deleting the channels before rescanning. I just removed them all, saved (which I hadn't done before), then went back in and rescanned. This fixed it!

Thanks!

I did not have to remove all the channels, just WOIO. Then rescanned the digital ota channel 10 (WOIO maps to 19.1), wait for "Locked and acquired" message to show up, hit save and hit save again in the next menu screen.
