I was mentioning in another thread that my Tivo dials out a lot, and it can be very annoying, especially when I'm on the phone. Why does it dial out so often? Sometimes 4 times a night. Can this be stopped, apart from removing the phone line. It is set to dial in every 8 days or so to the DVR service, not every day? Could this be D* requesting a dial in for Pay per view info?

last night i was on the phone with the protection team about my dvr issues. the tech told me that it is normal for the dvr to make calls everyday. he explained that the daily or nightly connections are for ppv reasons and about once a week it will call in to check for service related downloads.

maybe, if it is trying to connect several times, the first attempt to connect and finish what it started failed due to call waiting / incoming call, or someone picked up the phone while the dvr was trying a connection. thus causing the repeat attempts.

with my own experience, i had a philips dvr that couldnt finish a connection or download no matter how many times it tried. every single test and connect attempt would fail even with *70 used to disable call waiting. this caused the dvr to continue with repeated connections. directv said it was a bad modem.

I believe you can change this settings in the Phone Connection/Setup section. Take a look at your menu and you should be able to fix this.
