i have my cable box hooked into my dvi port on my tv but i am getting dish next week and want the 942 hooked into there as well. I use my cable box for recording hd locals on the dvr and it seems to look best on dvi so is there a way to solve this or will i be forced to unplug my dvd from compnet and plug in something there and downgrade my dvd to s-video?
thanks
I haven't heard of a DVI switchbox, but if there isn't one that's affordable why wouldn't you want to use the component video out on the cable box and hook them up to your TV?

Try some searches. There are lots of them. I haven't seen any particular reasonable price, yet.

Switchers can get pricey.
Here (http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/hd-DVI-2x1.htm) is the model I have. I was using it to switch between an 811 and Samsung DVD-HD931.
Keep in mind, that if you are using a mid to high end display, each of your inputs could have independant settings for each source. And not all source devices have equal output settings. So what I ran into is that my LCD display was too dark on the Samsung, and it washed out when I would switch to the 811. I ended up bringing in ISF to calibrate the input in order to bring balance to the two sources. Subsequently Dish had made several changes to the output picture settings during some software updates and each time this happened it cost me $200 for ISF to return and recalibrate the input.
Your cheaper option and most user definable would be to use either the cable box or the 811 over Component Video (YPrPb).

The way I have it currently is the Dish on the DVI and the Cable and DVD on Component inputs. I gave cable a chance on DVI but dish still had better PQ than cable on compnent esp in HD. So Dish won the DVI battle. DVD, and Cable get compnent and VCR gets the S-Video. Has worked quite well for me.

If you find the DVI switchers expensive look for a HDMI switcher. You can use a DVI-HDMI cables and connect to the switcher. Might work out cheaper.

I use a Gefen switch too. Choked up for the 4 to 1. Figure I'll need the ports sooner or later (still way cheeper then getting a receiver that can do it - though hopefully the receivers will move from 2:1 to 4:1 and come down in price).
If it's any consolation, the Gefen throws in the extra cables.
If you do decide on a switch, make sure it supports HDCP (for future compatibility).
Otherwise, put one device on component.
Edit: Prices are getting better on receivers. Quick Crutchfield search:
Denon w/ 3:1 switch: $2000
Onkyo w/ 2:1 switch: $1000

I've heard that you can use those inexpensive LCD computer monitor DVI switches. Is that a no-no? I think I've seen them for less than $100. Granted they're not marketed/labeled for using DVI on TV's but it may work if it's compatible with DVI-I. Check this out. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817107561

Is it a no no? Depends, can it pass EDID and HDCP?
