"Your Guide To The future"
DID YOU KNOW THAT...
...DISH Network is launching the long-awaited DISCOVERY HD THEATER channel in two stages and on two separate channels in their 61.5 orbital location?
...beginning June 17th the DISH HD Demo channel 9443 is currently broadcast in QPSK?
...DISH will be running the Demo Channel content during the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET and then switching over to DISCOVERY HD THEATER from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. ET. (This channel will be broadcast in free access through August 1, 2002)?
...starting on July 1st channel 9420 will be broadcasting DISCOVERY HD THEATER 24/7 in QPSK as a subscription service for $7.99/month or $96 annually?
...in order to see this channel, an Enhanced HD module will be needed to be plugged in to the model 6000 Dish receiver?
...beginning July 1, you will be able to call 1-888-222-3474 to have the module shipped to you free of charge if you choose to buy an annual subscription to Discovery HD Theater?

Cool, thanks for the info HTGuy! A big congardualtions to all the folks who'll be getting this long awaited channel. I wonder if Discovery HD will go on 148 as well?
There was a typo in the email I got from HDTV Magazine. They obviously meant that starting 7/1 on ch 9420 Disc HD would be in 8PSK, thus necessitating the need for the "Enhanced HD" module.

Did Dish NOT say that they would be sending these modules out to all 6000 customers ANYWAYS a bit earlier since it allows for more HD programming since it can fit like 3 channels per transponder instead of 2?

Ogre, while they never said it would be free it was hinted that this will be the case.
I suspect that Later this year or early next year they will send the units out to all 6000 owners.
I owe everyone here at DBStalk.COM an BIG BIG BIG apology! Last week as you know I received Discovery HD information from a source from Dish Network, this "Source" informed me that Discovery HD would be added and would be replacing HD PPV. As you know this rumor did not pan out.
On Thursday I received another email from this source who informed me of this new Discovery Channel HD news. Because his last information to me did not pan out I decided not to post then information here on DBStalk.COM (Although I did email a few members who emailed me asking if I have heard anything)
Now because the source was correct the second time around I am kicking myself in the butt and his information was 100% correct.
So for this I am sorry, it was a catch 22 for me, post it before anyone else and again have the possibility of the rumor being wrong or don't post it with the hopes that the info is wrong. :)
I am trying to make a good name for us here at DBStalk.COM and only want to pass on good information to all of our members. I hope you can all forgive me for not posting this news on Thursday.

Okay, so who will be watching at 6PM est today? I think this is great news! It's good to see Dish will be doing this. What really kind of irks me though is that there was no mention of this on the Charlie Chat. It would seem that one week ago this uplink would have been in the advanced planning stages.

If you think $7.99 is a bit much for a single channel, raise your hand.

I added a dish for 61.5 Saturday and had Dish turn on WCBS-HD. I also set up a favorites list on my 6000 for HDTV.
I guess I will miss the launch if it is 6:00 EST (4:00 MST) but I will be watching later tonight.

I wish I could see 61.5...I'm gonna call Dish and tell them that they're forcing me to lose the channels that I'm legally entitled to receive by putting DHD on 61.5 only, and complain enough until they come out and install a 3rd dish for me! :D
Think my neighbor would notice if I cut down his 150' tree? :D

You can sign up for a free preview or subscribe to the full-blown issue. It is well worth the sub cost, this guy is really on top of the HD market and has interviews with the top Kahuna's in the industry. Today's issue was an interview with the VP of New Media at Discovery and they were discussing the new HD channel.
