Hi. I know Dish says you need a second dish for VOOM, but is that 100% true? Is there a way around it?
Thanks

Yes- get a Dish 1000. This single dish picks up 110, 119 & 129. Voom is sent out on 129 & 61.5. You only need receive 129 OR 61.5- not both. This assumes you have no locals or international or other programming in your subscription from 61.5, 105 or 121 (super dishes).

or you could go the poormans route, which is adding a lnb to the left side (looking from behind) of the satellite and tapings or using ties to keep it in place... i was board and physically went and held an lnb in the air beside the other lnbs to get a signal (although not as strong as if i were to get a Dish1000 or actually peak for 3 lnbs as opposed to 2lnbs) but it is do-able (although it also may depend on where you are located).

So, does anything else require 129 or 61.5? I am not interested in international channels though.

129 is pretty new, so there isn't much on there now. But who knows what its future is? Also 61.5 has changes in the past year. Before it was where the old HD channels where kept before they migrated to 110 back in the fall of 2003. Only the HD Demo channel & and some international channels remain. But now that Dish has bought the old Voom rainbow 1 satellite, they have gained more TPs at 61.5, which changes the capability of the 61.5 slot.
We will likely see most HD require one or the other slots. Likely most of the country will try to be serviced by 129 since it can be received with 110/119 with a single Dish1000 dish. 61.5 will likely end up serving the East Coast and relieving some areas from 129.
