Are any models of DTV DVR's Energy-Star compliant? My old Hughes non-DVR receiver was, but my new Samsung DVR is not. It uses 40 watts, which comes to 28.8 KWh in a 30 day month. That adds up after a while, especially since NH has some of the highest electric rates in the nation.

I do not recall seeing the Energy-Star logo on the R15. And, IIRC, it uses 55 watts.

So it takes one to two receivers to use as much power as light bulb regardless of where it is left on or not, as long as it is plugged in it will use that much power. I know that a Dish Network 522 uses 50 watts in which is their dual tuner with two tv outputs and the Dish Network 721 uses 65 watts in which is a dual tuner with only one tv output. Interestingly the Dish Network 311 receivers use more power than the 301 or 111. The 311 uses 40 watts while the 301 and 111 use 25 watts.

At least in the winter, the wattage produces heat.
