View Full Version : R15 - Live Buffer is gone!

I just tried to PAUSE a live program during dinner. When I pressed the PAUSE button, the status bar came up at the bottom of the screen and the bar showed that the program had paused and that it had been "recorded" for about 1 hour. However, the program kept playing. I also tried to RW the program. When I pressed RW, the status menu came up a the bottom of the screen and the symbol at the right side indicated that it was supposed to be rewinding, but it was not -- it just kept playing. It appears that my Live Buffer is now 0 minutes long!
(I will try to RESET the unit later this evening and will report whether or not that fixes the problem.)
Has anyone else seen this? I do not recall having seen this problem reported yet, but if it has, please point me to that thread.
Thanks.

i have not seen this problem on mine yet................now you've got to put up with the slow repopulating of the guide data. could take awhile as you most likely already know if you've resetted previously :(

The RESET worked, and, yes, it took about 36 hours for the guide to get repopulated.

Is the RESET the same as the CLEAR & DELETE EVERYTHING on the Tivo? That takes 1-2 hours.

No. the "reset" on the R15 appears to be just as the "restart recorder" on the TiVo based units. the major problem i have seen with the "reset" on the R15, is the "extremely slow" repopulating of the guide data. the R15 doesn't appear to loose any data but as you probably know, it messes with your "to-do list" until the data for those recordings are repopulated into the guide. :(

So when zortapa stated it takes 36 hours that's the complete repopulate processes? So if you have programs set to record in that time you could "miss" them due to the incomplete guide data?
It sill boots up quicker so you can watch shows, right?

yes, it does appear to take at least that long before all the guide data is back in place. i have not experimented enough with it to know what recordings would be missed but i do know that the first time i did a "reset" for curiosity purposes,( this was at 11:00 p.m.), i had a recording set at 3:00 a.m. and it still recorded even though the data for that particular recording was incorrect in the "to-do list"
as far as the "bootup time", by comparing it to my DSR 708, i think the R15 is quicker........maybe because it's not reloading all the correct guide data at the time.
i will say however, that some of the guide data repopulates relatively quick from 30 min. to a few hours, but most is "slow"

The 1+ days to repopulate the GUIDE data is how long it took to get ~2 weeks of data back into the guide. The reboot itself took about 3 minutes to complete, and it looked like at least 2 days worth of guide data were in place immediately. Given this, it seems that the R15 should be able to record everything correctly, and I have not found any missed programs.
One more point. I "accidentally" pressed the RESET button which a show was recording. When the R15 came back online, it continued recording the same program. When the program was finished, I found that I had two entries for this program in MyVOD. Here are the details:
- Program was set to record from 10 to 11pm.
- I pressed RESET at 10:40.
- MyVOD had two entries for this program, and both said it stated at 10pm.
- Entry #1 included only the first 2 minutes of the program.
- Entry #2 included the last 17 minutes of the program.
Thus,
- almost all of the program recorded before pressing RESET was lost (was it in RAM?)
- all of the program starting immediately after the RESET recorded correctly.
