I posted this in a previous thread, however I later found out that it was the Dish Thread, my appologies for the duplicate thread, but I am kind of in a hurry to do this. Thanks again for any help on this matter.

I have to say between the TIVO Site and this one I have learned an incredible ammount of information from you guys. But I have yet to find a simple install procedure for hooking up a DVR. I have seen hooking up 12 at one time (Exagerating of course), but here is my situation:

I curently am running 2 TV's, both are non HD. I want to upgrade to a DVR. My satellite from what I can tell is a Oval Triple LNB. (3 Prongs). I have 2 coax cables comming from the Satellite going into the box mounted on the side of the house with both of them running to 2 seperate coax connectors comming from the house. (There are 2 spares comming out from the house as well). I am wanting to purchase the R15 from an outside retailer due to the fact that DirectTV cannot gaurantee me what kind of DVR I will get.(Learned that from yall as well.) I looked at the instruction manual online and it does not give me any info how to hook up a dual LNB. What will I exactly need in order to complete the process?

Help me Obi Wan Kenobe your my only hope.

First thing you need are the four feeds from your Triple LNB dish. The "3 pronged" dish, are you put it, is suppose to have 4 cables coming out of it. This 4 can feed any receivers or can feed a 4-5x8 multiswitch to allow more receivers.

But if you only have 2 cables coming from your 3 lnb dish, you have problems.

A bit more of an explanation might help you.

The dish you have is capable of feeding a total of 4 tuners. A "tuner" is either a stand alone receiver (such as the D10 or D11), or one of the two tuners in a DVR.

It sounds like you are curently using only 2 of the 4 outputs from the dish, and these are currently feeding 2 receivers.

If you are going to replace one of the 2 receivers with a DVR, you will need to run at least one more coax from the dish to where the DVR will be located.

If you are going to put the DVR in as an addition to two existing receivers, then you will need to run 2 more coax cables from the dish to the DVR location.

I recommend you go ahead and run 2 more cables regardless. No sense having to climb up to the dish again in the future. With all 4 cables coming down, you can feed up to 4 tuners, or you can run the 4 into a multiswitch and get additional outputs.

Carl.

Thanks Carl, I had kind of figured all along that I would have to run a new coax, I guess either I thought there was an easier way, or that maybe I was in denial or something. I guess I can see how difficult it would be to string my own coax, or take my chances with what Direct TV will give me and have them trance through the attic and install the second coax. I really do not want the R-10, aside from all the software glitches the R-15 sounds like it is going to be a nice piece of equipment. I've seen the way people smooze DirectTV for things, think I can smooze them out of a free install??? lol. Well again thanks for the help, more to come when I climb through the attic. You know adding on to what Wolfpack said, if they are "Suppose to be 4 cabless running down", and they only have 2  maybe I can complain about that.
