Quick question...Do I just need to call DTV and request the new equipment or should I go through a local installer. I thought I had read that it was a "free" upgrade with rebates, but I may be incorrect.
any insight is appreciated.
thanks in advance

I just scheduled my ATL install for Tuesday Dec. 5 through DirecTV. It's a $99 install, that includes the new dish and HD receiver, though they waived the $99 fee. So I would go through DirecTV in this case to see about gettting the free install.
I also have my install scheduled for 12/5, but I was not successful getting the full fee waived. I tried to do this with two different reps, but had no luck (I also think I have used too many credits on my account as well). I did however get them to reduce it to $40.
One other question regarding the Atlanta channels: are we only getting the -1 HD channels or are we also getting -2, etc. in addition.
Currently, channel 11 has regular NBC programming on 11-1 and weather programming on 11-2. The CBS station last year broadcast other games of the NCAA basketball tournament on 46-2, 46-3, and 46-4 (which makes buying the tournament package from D* useless).

I believe it's just the primary HD .1 channel.

Is it just ABC, NBC, Fox, and CBS? Or will we get UPN, WB, PBS, and maybe TBS?\
Thanks guys!

I have heard that it's only the 4 major networks for now. Apparently they have to work out licensing agreements with the other networks, though I'm sure they'll be added sooner than later.
I'm getting the upgrade installed on 12-28 and am curious about the mpeg4 PQ.

Upate to my previous post. DTV bungled my install scheduling twice. It was finally scheduled for Saturday 12-17. Installer came out and said these dishes can't be installed on the roof. I call his company, they say they can, they just need different mounting brackets and that the installer needs to call his supervisor. The installer says he's going to call his supervisor, but instead gets in his truck and leaves! So I call DTV, I'm on hold for 30 Minutes, then get disconnected. Redial, hold for 20 more minutes, and am again disconnected. Call again and speak with customer retention. Customer Retention person was very nice & very helpful - - a nice change from the rest of the front line CS representatives. She confirms that it is room mountable, and that they will send a supervisor out next Friday to complete the install. I end up getting 1 month free, $5 off for 12 months, another $20 no-show fee (my 2nd, since they screwed up my 1st install) and Showtime free for 3 months. Basically, DTV has ended up paying me $140 to do this install.
