View Full Version : 5 sec sound dropout on OTA DVR not a recording glitch

I know many people have had the same problem with 3-7 second sound dropouts with OTA recordings. I always thought it was a recording glitch not playback. I have found something interesting playing around with it. If one pauses the playback at or after the dropout then goes back to before the dropout, viola the sound is back and the pix is no longer a little jerky. So it seems to be a playback issue.

I wondered that... but never tried it on my DH recording from Sunday night that was having the sound issues. Next time I experience it I'll give it a try.

I have noticed that if I had an OTA recording of a channel that I am not currently receiving (i.e. I recorded out-of-town signals that skipped in for a brief time) the playback is affected by the lack of signal. The recording will eventually play, but only after going through "acquiring signal" attempts.
Perhaps this audio issue is related to current reception conditions of the station where the recording originated.

I have not have the same success. I had a few dropouts on "Lost" last night and could not get them back by following that procedure.

Yes I am sure there are instances where the inbound signal is the problem rather than playback. That may have been what you saw in your recording of "Lost". I have seen both instances where a degraded OTA HD signal glitches both in real time and playback.

Jason-
I had a couple of glitches on my 942 with lost last night. i think it was their feed that had some blips. In fact, Mine actually jumped to live (watching on a delayed while still recording the rest) I had to start over and skip part and then it was mostly ok.......So with issues on the 921 and 942 it seems it was the feed on that particular show last night.

I've noticed lots of different behavior with recording glitches.
A. During live playback or playback of recorded program
1. Sometimes it freezes the system and causes a reboot
2. Sometimes it freezes the system, and I can recover by skipping foreward
3. Sometimes it causes audio dropout only
4. Sometimes it causes video and audio dropout
5. Sometimes there is just a little bit of pixelation
B. When skipping foreward
1. Sometimes it freezes the system and causes a reboot
2. Sometimes it freezes the system, and I can recover by skipping foreward
C. Skipping back after a glitch
1. Sometimes I can play the 'missing program' just following a glitch
2. Sometimes the system freezes (I guess I skip back to before the glitch and play right into it.)
Jeff
All of these problems seem to be related to how well the 921 handles breaks in the data stream.
