Is it possible to use only 1 coax cable run down a wall, maybe join two wires in attic the resplit the signal downstairs. If so, how? What hardware do I need and any reccomendations on where can I get it?
I have a triple LNB oval dish now. I know it may cost more than running a new wire, but wanted all my options available to me.
I do not know a lot about cabling but am not afraid to try.
Thanks,
David

My understanding is that to have dual tuner you must have two lines coming from the dish. You can use existing wiring if it is RG6 cable, but if you have only one line you'll need to add another to utilize dual tuner.
(It has something to do with accessing transponders ... each coax cable needs its own access to the transponders and thus you cannot join or split cables that are meant to be independent.)
cold30,
Earl can address this better but a device "stacker and destacker" cost about $2000 (don't quote that part) is possible. As you said, cost is the problem. If you already have a line in place, cheaper to use it to fish a dual line in I'd think but know there's always more variables to it.

Okay I know I'm gonna hear about this, but. Everyone says it wont work, although I am doing it and it works. I just bought a 5 dollar or so satellite splitter from fryes electronics and it is working. There are some flaws on certain stations but for the most part it works!
I only did this due to laziness, even though everyone says it would not work I had to try it anyhow. Yes, it is not perfect. For me, it is good enough for now. DTV subcontractor is coming out on 12/3 to install my 5 LNB dish at that time I will have them run the extra lines for me and do away with the splitters.
I believe the only time it creates trouble is when you are on "opposing" transponders at the same time. Others with more experience with transponders have a much better explanation.

Or different Sats.
If your two tuners are on channels that reside on the same sat and both on even or odd transponders I think it will work. But if one tuner changes to a channel that's on a different sat or on a even/odd transponder that's different from the other tuner, you will run into problems.
At least that's what I've gathered. I could be totally off on this.

Yup thats what happens like if I watch 252 I'll get a searching for satellite 1/2 depending on which tuner is on 252. But it seems to be rare and on limited channels for the most part it works fine though. Its not right and bugs me somewhat compared to running the lines myself (crawling under the house) I opted to deal with it for the time being, luckily for me my 5 LNB dish is being installed this Saturday, so I will have the installers run the extra lines then. :)
Thanks for the help!
