Want to know if this is going to mess up my 721. I have a 721 with a separator and a 508.

When I try to use the power inserter on port 1 and then into the 721 separator or the 508, nothing is finding the switch. When I plug port 1 directly without using the power inserter into the separator of the 721 all works well. I assume the power is being supplied by the 721. Will this potentially damage my 721.

Does this seem like there is something wrong with the power inserter. I tried pluging into both the 508 and 721 and in both cases no satellite signal.

Thanks

In the technical notes for the DPP44 it says: "A receiver is not required to be installed in port 1". It also says: "Power inserter must be installed in port 1".

Have you tried using Port 2 and 3 for the receivers? and just use the power inserter in port 1.

Yes, I tried to just use the power inserted on port one with no receiver, and I get no signal.

Do you think this will damage my 721 having port 1 plugged directly into it

I don't think it will damage the receiver. The power inserter is used to provide power to the LNBs and the switch itself. Apparently your receivers are providing enough power to both the LNBs and the switch because it's working.

Hopefully some of the installers will provide more input on this issue.

Edit: More questions.

Did you make sure you are receiving odd and even transponders on both receivers without the power inserter?
What LNBs are you using? I believe that the DPP Twin requires more voltage thus the requirement for the power inserter.

All channels seem to be working. I have this hooked up to a DP PRO quad

I've hooked up alot of DP44 switches and each time if I'm running all DP model receivers , I DO NOT need the inserter. The DP model receivers have enough power to run the switch and the all LNBs.
