View Full Version : 522 Not Downmapping locals

I was at my son's house today helping him move his 522. Got it all hooked up, ran all the diagnostics and everything checked out OK except that the local channels were not downmapped to their low channel numbers. He said they never were. Since I own a 921 and am not familiar with the 522, I thought I had better check. Software version is L255 which is the latest. I had assumed all dish receivers were downmapping locals by now. Is there a setting or option in the system menus that I have missed? I spent almost an hour looking and didn't find anything about local channels. Any advice would be appreciated.
My 921 USED to downmap the locals, but during one of my many resets and rescans of locals (something I have to do almost every other day it seems ug), the locals stopped being downmappend and never have been again.
I called dish support about it but even when I got the "expert" support she didn't even seem to understand what the problem I was describing was, much less how to fix it.
If anyone DOES know a way to fix this, I would love to know. I would like my locals to be where I think of them being...near the OTA ones.
And yes, I used to have both the dish locals and the OTA locals in the lower numbers.

dwcobb: On your 921make sure your off air antenna locals enable box under viewer preferences in the second screen is UNCHECKED. This will show up checked again after doing a reset to factory defaults. Go to viewer preferences and click the MORE button to reach this option. It is well hidden. Hope this is the problem.

There is no setting. It is supposed to be done automatically by the receiver. For new installations, it can take a day or two but since this doesn't sound like a new installation, there is some other problem for which I don't know of a solution. However, you can try the following.
1. Verify that the subscribed DMA channels are available in the 7000, 8000, or 9000 channel range.
These are the channels that are mapped down. If these are not present, it is not a Local Channel Mapdown issue. Use Missing Channel troubleshooting. Significantly Viewed channels, not available in all areas, are in the 60 and 6000 range.
2. Verify the receiver is set up to receive DISH local channels. (This step can be skipped for the 522.)
3. Power off the receiver and unplug the receiver from the electrical outlet. Wait 15 seconds, plug the receiver back into the electrical outlet and power the receiver on.
That's from DISH's help files regarding local channel mapping missing but it may not work.

The locals are out of Indianapolis DMA and are present in the 8450....etc channel range. He said that this receiver never has downmapped them to the appropriate low numbers. We tried all the tricks, reboots, check switch, etc and no go. I guess I'll have him call Dish and get another receiver as this is a leased unit. Thanks for the info.
Rotrykt, just wanted to say thanks. Your solution was of course all that was needed, and it was very easy (albeit, one of the most counterintuitive fixes I can imagine!). Now that I know, I can fix it any time. Much better to have them back in the low channels!
