Heard a commercial this afternoon on the radio where D* is now offering HD DVR upgrades to existing subs (something like a $250 upgrade for an HD DVR). So whats up E*? D* going to beat you to the punch again? :eek2:

Existing Dish customers can get a 921 HD DVR... some have gotten the 942... so how exactly is DirecTV beating Dish to the punch?

Kinda OT:

Who do I talk to, to see if I have to get another dish for HD programming from E*? I currently have the 625 but am considering upgrading. What's an upgrade to a 921 or 942 cost existing customers?

What's an upgrade to a 921 or 942 cost existing customers? There is no upgrade path to an HD-DVR from Dish. The only "official" option is to purchase from Dish or a retailer.

If you have a Dish 500 antenna pointed at 110/119 now, you can get the base HD Pack from Dish without anything else. If you want the VOOM package, you need to replace the Dish 500 with a Dish 1000, or get another antenna pointed at 61.5. If you want, and can qualify for, CBS-HD from Dish, that is on 61.5 and 148.

The number to call is 1-800-333-3474. As I remember, there's a $99.95 charge for an antenna upgrade installation.

Well you have to beg and beg some more to get that if you are an existing customer. If D* is advertising it then I definately believe they did beat E* to the punch. I called E* and their response was that I could buy one for $700, I sent an email to the ceo and was able to get "offered" the new custmoer lease deal on a 942, yet I have emailed a few times saying I would take them up on that offer and have not gotten any replies back which is really frsutrating.

Tell me about it, 99% of folks never even knew there were 6 of them at 1280x1080i from day one :(, this is why Dish is going to get by with it

I am not going to jump off just yet. With E* everything is so secretive we really have no idea what their intentions are until they come out and say it. Is this permanent? Do they HAVE to fire up the remaining 11 Voom channels by 12-xx-05? Will this be something that will only change when Turbo/MPEG4 come online. I will give them the benefit of the doubt for the short term.

Heck at least it isn't as bad as D* HDs...

Things aren't "secretive" at DirecTv?
