Seems Dish Network is falling behind on this technology. Anyone have an update on this tech?

I called DirecTV yesterday to get an install scheduled. They were more than happy to help, but the system would not allow them to order an H20 for me and unless you have the equipment seperately, they cannot schedule anything until they can order the hardware. He noted my account and I'll call back again on Thursday. It's smart enough to know that the H20 is of no use to a non MPEG 4 area, this will be allowed on Thursday.

I called the contract installer they normally use for southern NH and they have the new Ka/Ku dish in stock, so it should not be an issue on getting it installed soon after you make the call.

I'll post here once I have an install date set :)

E* is not pushing HD local in locals at this time. Perhaps in May. :D

I get my locals in HD for free OTA. Why would I be in a hurry to pay Dish for them?

Of course you wouldnt, but the other gajillion people out there that cant get HD OTA will be happy to get it from their DBS....

I'm in market #87. I don't expect D* to get this far soon. They only just added SD locals in their last wave before using 72.5°.

Agreed. I can never be sure when people are panicking about DirecTV having locals before Dish... if it is someone who cannot get locals OTA and they really need them via satellite... OR if it is someone who can get them OTA.

I've always supported and wanted the satellite companies to deliver locals and locals in HD first to the people/places who can't get them OTA... but it seems they go to the major markets first, for obvious monetary reasons...

But that just means it is a moot point, to me, when someone says "DirecTV has my locals, why doesn't Dish" because most of the time that is a person who can get them OTA for free if they tried. The people who are most in need of the locals via satellite can't get them in HD from either company right now, and probably not for a long time to come :(

Welcome to Dbstalk. If Dish has HD local plans, this and other devoted satellite info sites will be the first to tell you of such news. So stick around and stay tuned for more updates. I'll bet that we'll hear some details at the 2006 CES, which is only a few weeks away.
