Now that DTV has begun offering its own DVR, I’m wondering how long DirecTV will support Tivo. Right now I have a standard Tivo but want to upgrade to the HD Tivo. However I know that Tivo will eventually be phased out as customers are transitioned over. Since there are so many customers with Tivo’s, not exactly sure how many, but definitely quite a few, I figure that it will take a while. The reason I ask this question is because my DTV contract is over in about a month and I am mulling over what to do. It’s a bit complicated because I would like to stay with DTV but I want to keep my Tivo for awhile. I don’t want to upgrade to the HD Tivo and commit to two more years if they discontinue support for Tivo. I really don’t want their soon to come HD DVR because I have a bad feeling about it. Fro reading the reviews of the standard DVR they have already begun offering, there seem to be a lot of problems with it and its not quite ready for primetime. I assume the HD DVR is just gonna be the same as the standard DVR. It sounds like the interface and functionality are not as good as Tivo, but then again what is.
So basically I’m wondering if Tivo will be supported for at least another year or two, or does everyone think that once they roll out the HD DVR they will quickly begin transitioning everyone over to the new DVR’s and then discontinue support for Tivo. I already noticed that on the DTV website they changed it fro HD Tivo and are now calling it the HD DVR although its clearly still the HD Tivo. What does everything think about all this?
