Hi. First-time poster.
I have two DirecTV receivers. One is obviously mirrored, and I pay the $4.95 extra per month.
Question: Over the holidays, I plan to stay at my parents house, in the same city. Can I take one of the units with me, and receive my programming there? They used to have DirecTV, so they are already wired with a dish.
Thanks.

It will work if the Dish does.

Sorry if you didn't get my message.

If you take any receiver from one dish and connect it to another dish it will work. You may run into problems with local channels if you're moving a receiver from one spot beam to another, but you will still have the same programming. No one needs to know it's at another location.

Thank you! I have an older receiver. I am thinking about mirroring it, and taking it on vacation. You don't need a phone line, right?

Nah, the phone line is basically just for using the remote to order things and for some Tivo related things, otherwise, the phone line is not necissary.

Go for it. My original reply about the dish working says it all. If you have a receiver on an account and take it to another other DTV dish, it will work. Locals are the only concern.

Phone lines are not needed for receivers and with DVRs it's questionable if a phone line is needed.

Personally, I've got an old oval dish on a tripod and take that everywhere with just a receiver. Never failed to get a signal.

Sorry, I didn't respond with anything more cuz I saw Wollfpack's message and couldn't add anything to it other than a welcome. :)

I hope you've got the answers you need: Sure can move a receiver from place to place. Nope, don't need a phone line unless you want to order PPV via remote control (I always use the website for PPV so all my receivers can see them.) After a couple weeks, TiVo's will complain once per day if they don't have a phone line, but I don't find it terribly annoying cuz its only when I go into Now Playing or Directv central (and only once per day.)

Cheers,
Tom
