View Full Version : Dish outputs
My dad has a Directv triple LNB receiver with 4 outputs on the dish. The Directv DVR takes 2 and 2 other receivers in the house use the other 2 outputs. He has an additional room he'd like to put a receiver in. What do we need to do to get a 5th output from the dish???
You will need a 4x8 multiswith which will give you 8 outputs

:) Free install from D*. That way they would bring all the right stuff.
Basically you need a 4x8 multiswitch that will take the four outputs from the dish and distribute them to up to 8 tuners. If you are lucky, the 4 lines you already have run thru a common location (like the attic or basement) where the new multiswitch can be installed without major re-route of the existing cables.
BTW, to be compatible with the new 5lnb switch, I ran 3 coax to each location: 2 for any DVR I would have in the future plus 1 for OTA signals. The new 5lnb dish uses the frequencies down in the UHF range, so we can no longer carry them on the same coax as a satellite signal.
Cheers,
Tom
If you call DTV to add the 4th receiver you will probably get a better deal then if you buy switch, I believe they will add the receiver for $49.99 which would include installation, switch and receiver
Thanks for the info. All the wires come in to one location so adding the switch shouldn't be too hard.
