Due to homeowners association restrictions, I cannot install a satellite dish on the outside structure of my home, but rather only in the screened-in pool area.
I currently have dish network which works great from inside the screened area, however I now would like to switch to Direct TV as DN cancelled the Russian Programming that I subscribed.
The Direct TV installation guy said that the new dish will not be able to recieve the international programming signal from inside the screened area. Aside from the screen there are no other obstructions whatsoever.
Am I just out of luck, or is there any other equipment that I can purchase that will work better?
Direct TV is apparently the only company to offer (decent) Russian programming so this is my only shot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you actually OWN the property, this restriction is nullified by the FCC.

Click on the EKB link at the top of any of these pages, then go to the "FAQ" section. There you will find a link to the FCC fact sheet on the issue.

Thanks for your help Tony. Unfortunately my house is in a master planned community where everything outside the actual building structure is considered common area (FCC Rule below). It looks like I'm limited to just the screened in patio.

A: The rules apply to residents of these types of buildings, but the rules do not permit you to install an antenna on a common area, such as a walkway, hallway, community garden, exterior wall or the roof. However, you may install the antenna wholly within a balcony, deck, patio, or other area where you have exclusive use.

Sorry to hear that. :( Okay so you do not actually own the property. You own the house interior, correct? If you own the property/exterior the community can claim anything it wants and it is still cannot enforce this rule.

Did the installer tell you why you couldn't get international programming from the area? Was it that the satellite with this programming is actually behind the building? Or could it be it requires a larger dish that will not fit? Any indication on why?

If the problem is the screen itself, you can replace a screen panel with a nylon mesh that is invisible to satellite signals.

The installer told me that the Direct TV dish required for international can not 'see through' a screen.
The nylon panel is definitely a possibility. Thanks!
