Hello,

I have been a Dish Network customer for over 2 years now and have had no problems. However, recently I have been considering adding a HD television to the household and finally getting a DVR as I am never home when the programming I enjoy is playing. I decided to contact Dish Network about how to go about upgrading to a new reciever that would has the capabilities I am looking for now. When I first spoke to a CSR I was informed that I could upgrade to the 942 receiver for a minimal cost (I forget exactly how much but it wasn't much). Anyways, I informed the CSR that I wanted to think about it before I chose to upgrade as I was late for a meeting. When I called back today I was informed that the CSR I had previously spoken to had made the mistake of offering me the deal for new customers and that the only way I could upgrade would be either to purchase the receiver through them for $798 or go through an independent reseller.

As a loyal customer for the past 2 years who probably subscribes to way more than I need, I find this unacceptable customer service. I am planning on calling back soon and asking to speak to a customer retention representative but I doubt it will go anywhere. My question is if anyone has any advice on the best course of action to get a DVR with Dish Network. As I mentioned before, I haven't had any trouble with the service for the most part but if they are unable to accomodate my needs for DVR and HD I might have to move to another provider unfortunately.

Thanks

You can try sending an e-mail to ceo@dishnetwork.com and tell them that you're thinking of switching to Direct where you can get a HD DVR for $400 - they may be of some assstance, especially if you're a high dollar customer - What are you currently subscribing to?

I pay for all of the channels besides movies (I believe it is called the 'everything' package) and local channels. I will definately try the email as my main gripe is I was basically told that they aren't willing to help with any DVR receiver and that I'm on my own if I want one.

If you are not getting the "movies" (HBO, MAX, SHO, STARZ) you are not getting the "everything package." (AEP)

You probably are getting the AT180 core package. Check your bill.

The Dishplayer DVR-942 is not currently offered to existing customers at a promotional price due to it's high cost.

But you can probably get the 2-tuner SD DVR625 for a $149 upgrade fee under the "Dish'n It Up" promotion. Contact your original retailer or call the DISH 800# again if you got your system through them.

If you read his post you can see he is thinking of adding a HD TV to his household. This is why he is interested in a HD DVR receiver.

With dish's dish'n'itup promo, you can probably get a 625 for about 100 bucks, but don't expect them to hand over a 942.

I had the same problem last year with dish. I called 12 times and got 12 different answers. The best was they were having a promotion on the 921. I was told to go to Sears and get the promotion code from them and then call dish back with it. I let my fingers do the walking and Sears had no idea what I was talking about. I went thru managers and supervisor til I got there phone # in Denver. I had gotten the 921 for 360.00 and not 550. the promotional price. Since then I had call the complain about my remote and they said they are going to mail me one. I got another 921 instead. I called them and asked what they sent me and they said a remote why. I said no reason and called my friend in Denver to tell them what customer service did. I took 3 weeks til UPS came to take it away. Oh they billed me for that unit 3 months later. I got $50.00 bucks off my bill for that.
