Thanks for all the great info that helped me decide to go with the R10 given that my wife will use as well. The problems with the R15 seem too many and the R10 should suffice for a basic user. We have kids and my Sony a50's have quircks for recording shows and we often miss some. BTW I really love it. First time TIVO guy so now I know why all the praise.
Read the tricks sticky. These apply to r10 correct? don't really know if I will use, but I printed. 30 second foward could be a plus.
The # buttons on the remote are very small and almost impossibe to find one handed in the dark. Is there a remote that anyone can suggest that has the r10 codes and better layout?
Last night it recorded 3 shows I never set up. Whasup? I don't use the thumbs up or down or suggestions. Nip Tuck Season Pass got me Touched By An Angel! (Oh no...Della Reese is the carver!):hurah:
Can I get a larger hard drive for it? As I am not too technical, I am getting conflicting info when I run search.
Thamnks again for your dedication.

1) Yes most of the codes in the sticky will work with the R10
2) Just about all modern universal remotes will work with the TiVo based products.
3) They are the default suggestions. You could have recorded one show with one actor, or they are just still the defaults... It will take a while till it figures out what you like
4) Yes... You can put any current IDE (not SATA though) hard drive in there, upto a dual 500gb configuration.

The above forum give you lots of things you can do with your R10. Good group of people, enjoy.

Thanks for the replys. Can you shut off this auto recoeding of unwanted shows? Very annoying. Came home to 6 more dumb shows recorded and have to delete each. Cool feature but a pain.
Are there special steps to upgrade drive? Software etc?

As for the recording shows...
Those are suggestions, go to the settings menu an turn off SUGGESTIONS.
AS for the upgrade drive... see www.tivocommunity.com for all the details on how to upgrade the drive.
The R10 is very much locked down, so you can't really tinker with the Software.

That feature is a pain on a new Tivo. After it has had time to learn what you watch it becomes more of a friend. In the beginning it will record suggestions based on a couple of shows you've watched and recorded. After about a month it has a better idea what you're looking for.
However, if this is you only Tivo, and you and other members of your house watch very different types of shows the Tivo can get confused.
For example you watch Law & Order and the CSI chain of shows. Someone else in your house watches Dr. Phil, Oprah and Judge Judy. Watch out. Soon you start seeing the suggestions listing something like "Law & Order: Judge Judy's Special Victims Unit".
Turn it off for now but you may want to try turning it back on after a month ot two.
On the R10 there isn't a disk space usage indicator so suggestions gives you an idea of how much disk space is used. As the HDD fills up with programs you select for recording, the Tivo software will delete the oldest suggested recording. You can keep an eye on the oldest suggestion and if it disappears you now know the HDD is full.

Thanks for great info. Gotta shut it off! It's too much of a pain and since I've not finished reading book, don't know if I can bulk delete. All in all...way cool!! Just ned a remote that's easier to handle one handed in the dark. Channel button are unsuable in the dark. Any suggestions?
If you like the new White Directv remote for the D10,R15,H20 you can buy a RC-24 that will control the R10.
