I have always thought that the picture quality on Dish Network receivers has always been far superior to Directv. I used to have a dish receiver hooked up on a Sanyo TV and everyone commented on what a great bright color rich picture it was.
Recently a friend of mine bought a Toshiba 42 inch Plasma TV. Their dish receiver is old like maybe 8-10 years but the picture on the TV was awesome. Some channels had such superior color it looked HD but it really wasn't. I was so impressed with the picture quality of older shows.
On the Directv side, another friend of mine has a Directv brand HD receiver and a plasma TV. The picture looks dingy and dull and we had to adjust bright settings to get it to look good. They also have a Tivo hooked up to their plasma TV and the picture with the Tivo receiver is better than the HD box.
My dad also recently got the R-15 DVR from Directv. The picture is sort of dull and faded also on his 65 inch Sony TV. There is no comparison that my dish receivers (811 and 721) look far better.
Anyone else noticed these things with Dish vs. Directv receivers??
