View Full Version : Noisy fan in 942?
Just got a new 942. Once in a while (half hour + or -) the fan will go into noisy resonance. Anybody else experience this? Any remedy, other than returning the unit? Turn it upside down and give it a good shot of WD40? :eek2:
Thanks, and Merry Christmas all.

You sure that it is the fan and not the hard drive? The fan should stay pretty steady, but the hard drive will make some noises when it is working.

Had some noise in my 942 some time ago, it was suggested I blow some compressed air into machine to clear out any dust. It did lower the noise but the 942 is not totally quiet.

My 942 is very quiet. Of course, I'm hard of hearing.

Well, there is that. :) Me, too (too much rock and roll)

my 942 is completely silent, i'm beginning to think there is something wrong with it - compared to my old 921 which could be heard in just about every room of the house...
The noise was resonance where the feet rested on a new component below the 942. Something was not quite level, and the fan or hard drive resonance in the 942 chassis was amplified where the 942 front feet met (or didn't quite solidly meet) the other component. Rubber feet to the rescue (plus the benefit of added air space). All's quiet. :)
