I am moving to Phoenix in a couple of weeks and don't want to pay Cox $100 a month for TV and Internet. I can get DSL for $25 a month instead of $40.

I currently have Dish Networks, but they are going to be $40 a month before local channels in 2 months. I am thinking of just going with DTV, because the last price I saw was they were $42 before locals.

The reason I would rather pay the $2 more a month is because DTV seems better. I have friends who have it and love it and been over to their house and I enjoy it. The biggest reason is I will need 2 rooms to have wires ran to and Dish will charge me installation charges since I am an existing customer. DTV will do it for free since I am a new customer.

My question is does DTV intead to raise their fee any time soon? Has it been announced?

Word of caution phatferd. If you're looking for Qwest to provide DSL, or even another provider for DSL, in the Phoenix metro area that is questionable.

Qwest really sucks around here. As this area is growing fast, Qwest takes the approach of installing repeaters (or bridge tapes) versus fiber from the central offices. Result being DSL is not available to your house.

Last year I moved to Scottsdale, a 10 year old subdivision. DSL was not available there. Even though Qwest kept coming around leaving flyers on the door and calling me, they could not provide DSL when asked. I ended up going with COX internet and DTV.

Honestly, even Qwest's voice phone service around here is crappy.

D* hasn't announced any pay increases.

Since you are considering DSL, Qwest, Verizon, and Bell South all offer bundled discounts with D*, so you might want to check into them as well so that you can save even more on your D* bill. I know that Qwest makes you sign up through them in order to get the discount. Qwest keeps asking me if I want to sign up for D*, and I tell them I already have an account, and they tell me they don't offer discounts to existing D* customers.

But out here in Phoenix Qwest runs the copper. I can't get DSL from anyone as Qwest hasn't created the infrastructure to support DSL. It all depends on what section of the valley you move into. Actually, I believe COX has as much residential phone service as Qwest does out here. As their customer service is known to be much better than Qwest's here.
