Question? How can DirecTV hold down their rates and Dish can't.
By not carrying OLN, Yes, Sunday Ticket, launching local HD or good retention deals to existing customers you would think Dish's could hold the line on costs.

Don't be so quick to assume anything...once Dish jacks theirs up, there's nothing stopping DirecTV from doing the same just on principle (monkey see--monkey do)

And don't forget, MOST cable companies will be raising their rates in 2006 (some have already announced sizable increases). I don't care what the PR person from DirecTV says, I perdict that DirecTV will be also be raising their rates in 2006.

If you read the quote, it doesn't state there won't be any D* price increases in 2006. It states "DirecTV does not expect any increases in the new year". If you look at this sentence:
"DirecTV does not expect": translate to "there is nothing currently planned, but who knows what will be necessary later"
"in the new year": translate to "in the first few months of 2006".
So, all Mr Mercer said was that they don't currently plan on raising prices in the first part of the year, but something might happen to change that. It is just a fancy way of saying "whatever happens happens."

Dish did add CSTV and Soap Net to the AT120 and ESPNU to the AT180. That has to cost something. Apparently, there wont be an '07 increase either. So there is that.
Also, their HD Locals are coming so that is a very weak point to try to make.
