EchoStar VIII Launch Delayed

LITTLETON, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 2002--The launch of EchoStar VIII, a high-powered direct broadcast satellite built for EchoStar Communications Corporation (Nasdaq:DISH) by Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) (NYSE:LOR), has been delayed.

During the final hours of the launch countdown on June 22nd, the complete functionality of a command receiver could not be confirmed.

The satellite was scheduled to launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard a Proton K/Block DM launch vehicle provided by International Launch Services (ILS). The launch will be rescheduled following the completion of further satellite testing and availability of the Baikonur launch base.

The launch delay will not result in any interruption to DISH Network's satellite service.

Is it just me, or are these a lot of words saying "It was delayed and we ain't telling you why or for how long"?

They have a problem with the satellite itself. I am just glad they caught it here so they don't have to send the Maytag repair man to fix it after it is in orbit. :Dish

That would be Gordon Jump (the current Maytag guy in the ads, formerly of WKRP in Cincinnati). I don't know if he could jump that high though. :D

What a coincidence! The local Maytag dealer here is also a DISH retailer. Maybe they can send this guy.
