I will be switching from E* very soon here I am just trying to get an idea of what deals are out there for D*. Their website seems to say you can only get a deal on ONE reciever then you have to buy all others at full price.

Here is what I want:
1 - HD DVR
2 - DVR

For a 3 room setup.

Are there any hidden deals for FREE HD DVRs?? Am I better going to Best Buy? Is there a new HD DVR MP4 that I should wait for?

Not trying to flame you here, but you should do some extensive searching on this topic before you buy. There is a lot of conflicting information on the subject, and no one really knows for sure.

The reason for all the confusion is D*'s current/upcoming conversion to mpeg4. The current DVR's are not mpeg-4 capable. You may find yourself needing to upgrade within a few months (for local HD channels). This upgrade may or may not be free, particularly if you are a brand-new customer. I would at least wait until after the Consumer Electronics Show (this weekend) to see if there are any significant announcements about D*'s new MP4 compliant DVR's.

If you're generally satisfied with your current provider, it wouldn't hurt to wait 3-6 months to see how everything shakes out. By that time, D* is expected to release their new Mpeg-4 HD DVR and possibly their Mpeg-4 HD Home Media Center.

Well E* has been descent, except for the fact that they keep dropping channels and raising prices. so now with Lifetime gone, potentially for a long time, the wife wants to switch to something else NOW. Not sure I want to think about trying Comcast Digital Cable though.

You'll love DIRECTV, especially the DVR. You are eligible for $300 in rebates, $200 for the HD DVR and one $100 rebate for the SD DVr.

You are best off starting with the AT9 5 satellite antenna dish system and will need the new KA/KU Zinwell 6x8 switch to accommodate all 6 outputs you will need to operate the 3 dual tuners.

Good luck and happy New Year!

Robert, can you honestly say that about the new R15 when compared to the Tivo based units? I won't go into all the little differences when compared to the Tivo's but the software for series link is just down right horrible. I have a D* Tivo with a seasons pass for Stargate SG-1 for new episodes only and it says that the next recording will be this Friday 1/6 which is correct. The R15 has a series link set up for first run and it's recording every single Stargate SG-1 that it can find. Same for other programs with series links. Until they can get this bug fixed IMHO the R15 is a POS. Sorry but that's how I see it.

Then he should have specifically said any D* DVR except for the R15, which is the newest box and is what D*'s pushing.
