Wow some pretty odd stuff in there. Some gaming league, the dating thing and the lcd tv with DirecTV built into it. Should be a pretty interesting year if all of these things actually make it to market.
Very interesting reading. Now just fix the R15 guide data and we can get this show on the road. Thanks Raott !
I thought the gaming thing was odd as well.
Assuming its based on computer gaming it could be very interesting. Especially since I have an Opteron 165, 2 Gigs of RAM, a 7800 GT graphics card sitting on my front porch waiting to be put together when I get home!

I am just ordering new hardware to replace my current system, which is pretty high end but I want a PCI-X vid card which means I can't use my current AMD 64 bit cpu and Asus MB.

The Dating thing... is odd... but okay.................
Other than that... I am liking what I am seeing.
Here's too hoping that have the HR20 out by March Madness, so I have a reason to purchase the March Madness package...
Hmm... Looks like MPEG-4 isn't giving us double or triple the space as we where expecting..

I did like the "PRO" plan.....
That would be so nice to have OEM 19" equipment, so you don't have to rig it up to fit right...
Intresting though, no mention of Home Media Center specifically (unless it is burried somewhere else in another product launch)
I'm betting the "Pro" unit is the Home Media Center, or what that rumor has turned out to be.
Note the official timeline of "mid 2006" for the HR20. Let's start a pool as to what that means. I'll take the 3rd week of September.

Would anyone give me 10-1 odds if I say it is ready for March Madness and the Interactive package in HD... :D

"The DIRECTV(R) Plus HD DVR (HR20) combines the best entertainment with unprecedented control and convenience to create the ultimate TV viewing experience."
interesting choice of words.... too bad it wasn't intentional

No kidding. Too bad MS had to pull the plug on that.
BTW, I see no mention of the Home Media Center (HMC) that they showcased at last years CES show. Anyone know whats going on with the HMC? Thanks.

Not sure what is going on with HMC... Some people are reading into the "PRO" system being the HMC, but without a specific statment....
Hopefully someone at CES will ask about the future of the HMC product.

Well I would say the Pro being rack mounted would be much like the HMC, though in reality it could be nothing more then a rack mount DVR with an RF remote. I seriously doubt they would go through that much trouble though just to put a dvr in a rack mount case while touting this as part of a hing end media center.
The Dating thing... is odd... but okay.................What a traditional romantic love story; I met your mother on DirecTV Plus!

What a traditional romantic love story; I met your mother on DirecTV Plus!
I have no "issues" with it... just wasn't expecting.
I did meet my wife on IRC (sure it was 13 years ago, before most people even knew what the Internet was)...
I see this as a forth coming episode on "How I Met your Mother"

Nice to see the HD DVR formally recognized. Hopefully it comes out before football season this year.

Wow some pretty odd stuff in there. Some gaming league, the dating thing and the lcd tv with DirecTV built into it.I've had an HDTV with DirecTV built in for over 4 years now, and although I love it, it really does have one big problem...you grow so used to having an "all-in-one" that shopping for a new TV is difficult.

I didn't know they did that before. What make and model was that?

Wolf, i believe that one unit i know of, was produced by RCA and had D* built into it but with no DVR capabilities. My spelling may be incorrect but i believe it was a "Scenium"?

Massive Gaming League
Using new technology that allows for the placement of cameras within an actual videogame, DIRECTV will produce a videogame tournament and cover it as a sporting event, complete with producer, director and technical crew. Stories of the competitors will be told via interviews and features, complemented with coverage of their exploits in actual competition. DIRECTV plans to launch the Massive Gaming League in 2006.
This sounds cool if they can pull it off. Say for example there is a 1st person shoot-em up tournament online. They could broadcast the tournament, and allow you to select the camera you want to view the players in action. With interviews to get to know the people behind the game characters. Sounds strange, but I've thought of this idea in the past and it could be cool. As games are getting more and more realistic you could almost turn them into a sport.

I didn't know they did that before. What make and model was that? There were two. The F38310 (38" direct-view CRT) and the P61310 (61" rear-projection CRT).
Both are essentially monitors with an RCA DTC-100 HD DirecTV receiver built in.
I have the F38310 and love it, although it did take a lot of tweaking to get the geometry as good as it can be.
