hi:
plz be patient with me, its my first post on this forum. I have rcn cable in easton, pa. I am a transplanted new yorker and "need" to see the yankees. RCN does not offer the YES channel in my area. I no longer can take listening to Yankee games on terrestial radio with Susan Waldman. Can I assume I will receive it with directv in my area?
also I have existing rg6 quad wire running my basic cable system. I am about to purchase a 50" plasma. I need a 4 room install with only one room right now for HD.
I would appreciate if someone could tell me if my wiring is good for the latest and greatest equipment that D* offers, what the best receivers and antennas and where do I go to get the best deal (preferably online). thank you. regards...
Yes, DTV does have the YES channel.

Now, as to whether or not you will see Yankee games on it is going to depend on other factors. I don't know what blackout rules are, or national versus local feed rules, etc. There are various issues that could determine whether or not you will see your games in your location. Nor am I sure of any method to confirm that, other than to have someone in Easton PA who has DTV tell you they have watched a Yankees game there.

Easy, pay for MLB extra innings for the game, and pay for the sports package to get the other YES shows other than live baseball.
You are not going to be able to watch a baseball game on YES unless you are in their local area market.

It's nothing new, all major sports do it (NFL,NHL,MLB,NBA) where they have local contracts. NASCAR does not because its all national.
The other option for you, is to 'move' your service address to a YES market area/NY area and keep your billing address in PA.
Good luck
The reason why RCN in your area doesn't carry YES is because Easton, PA is not part of Yankee Territory. So you would need to subscribe to extra innings to get the games, but you would only see the YES feed for most of the home games, for the majority of away games you would see a feed from the opposing teams RSN. If you want YES's other programming you need to subscribe to the sports pack. Unfortunately whenever the Yankees face the Phillies, you will be blacked out since CSN Philly has the rights to all Phillies games in your area, even though DirecTV doesn't carry the channel.
As for your wiring, they might have to replace the connectors and they might have to do some minor rewiring depending on your configuration with splitters, but otherwise the current wiring should be fine.

thank you so much for your input on the yankee games. I just called D* and they said if i get the sports pac? that I'll get the YES channel with alot of other stuff. They also had a deal for a 4 room installation with 3 SD receivers and 1 hd-20 high def receiver for free with free installation. that includes a 5 LNB dish. The receiver make he said was directv (does that make sense?)
basically the cost for programming is for 1 room 29.99 for first 3 months (hbo, sho, starz) + $8 for sports pac. after 3 months its 41.99 + 23 for sports pac and just HBO. add 10.99 for hd service and $15 for 3 extra rooms to get all that...so its $90 + tax...
is this a good deal. is the hd-20 receiver any good. it has hdmi but my receiver doesnt so thats no big thing for me cause then i cant get the sound out of my dts yamaha receiver. lastly, are there better deals on the web or at CC or BB? REGARDS...
You need the H20 to get the locals in HD and some of the new HD channels that will launch in the coming years.
But what they didn't tell you is the ammount of programming that will get blacked out on YES, (I heard that for a while Yankeeography and some other Yankee shows were getting blacked out, not sure if that's still the case though), you also still need to subscribe to Extra Innings to get the Yankees games.

I'd get them to clarify that if you were to get the Sports Pack that YES would be one of your Regional Sports Networks. Having the Sports pack gives you access to NESN and other regional FOX Sports channels, but once an MLB game comes on, you'll find it blacked out. For me, YES, FSNY, and MSG are my RSNs. I f I subbed to Sports Pack, I'd get the other RSNs, but whenever a Pro Sporting event came on any RSN, other than those three, it would be blacked out for me.
So call again to make sure that YES would be added as a Regional Sports Network if you add the Sports Pack. Get the id# of the CSR if you get an affirmative and record that and the date and time of the call if you end up being blacked out on YES so you can dispute.
He can't get YES as his local RSN since Easton, PA is not in YES Network/Yankees Territory, his only options are Sports Pak + Extra Innings or "Moving"

hi:
I think you're correct. Today I spent an hour trying to get prices through verizon for their entire bundle, phone dsl, directv. They are cheaper for D* than if you were to go directly to D* or so it seems.
I assumed I would get the Yankees on sports pak (never assume) so I will have to ask that question again. I am on the phone (hold) right now with D*. will post when I get answers...thanks

hi..
my zipcode is 18045. I just got off the phone with D*'s Juanita. very young. she said I will get the games. Sounded like she just wanted to make a sale. I am checking in my development with other homeowners. maybe you can help?
I just checked their site, you won't get any RSN with just total choice. But with Sports Pak, you will get Metrostars games on MSG Network and Penguins games on FSN Pittsburgh. If CSN Philly let D* carry it, you would also have that and all the Philly sports as well.
Basically, the person didn't know what they were talking about with YES, so you will need Extra Innings to see the Yankees Games.

Hi:
Wow I'm on hold for 20+ minutes. This sucks. This company is like AOL was 5 years ago. They've gotten too big. I can also tell that by who they have as sales associates. They sound like uneducated kids. Very very unprofessional.
I guess once you're up and running this may not be a big issue, but it is now when a person is not a customer. Well I'll hold another 5 minutes. Seems like the only way to really find out is to knock on a neighbors door that has D* and see what the deal is....:nono2:

You won't get any of the games, the sports pack will not give you any extended coverage of any out of market games for yes!.
However you will get access to metrostars (soccer) on MSG and Penguins (hockey) via FSN pitts that you wouldn't get w/o the sport's pack.
You're going to have to get the mlb xtra innings in order for yankees games.
Sorry.

yo guys...
They checked with supervisor. You guys hit the nail on the head...no Yankee games with sport pak. Have to get MLB extra innings ($170)....oye, steinbrenner wants my money...
thanks for clearing this up. Its been an education!!!REGARDS...
It would be great if they had special versions of Extra Innings, Sunday Ticket, Center Ice, and League Pass that lets you only pay for one team for those who just want to see one team and not the entire league.

hi:
yes i agree. however, how about this. they want $12 a month for the sports pac or $170 for the EXTRA INNINGS. So I don't get the sports pac cause i just want the Yankee games. I dont care about pre game, post game all that BS. $170 divided by 12 is $14 a month so this is not a bad alternative. Or am I doing something wrong here?

Thats about right, on top of that you wil have access to all the games that you wouldn't have even with the sports pack. not trying to sale, just simple fact.

Now thats funny! Seriously, from a broadcast point of view, there's no point for D* to do so. By bundling all games together, there's always the small chance you'll be intrested in the sports pack for the RSN's for those teams to get more info you may not have card for before. Secondly, the debate is raging over ANY al a carte packaging, so when the dust settles, it could be up in the air, however i wouldn't hld my breath.
Paul
If you just want games and no pre and post game then you don't need the sports pack.
But just so you are aware, you will get most of the Yankees games with Extra Innings, but you won't always get the YES Feed, for away games you will get the feed of the opposing team's network. You also won't be able to get the games that air on WWOR/9 since they are not available on Extra Innings for the most part. Also, in the rare times that the Yankees face the Phillies, you won't get those games either, since CSN Philly has the rights to Phillies games in your area, even though CSN Philly refuses to let DirecTV Carry them.

2 words for you....
SPOT BEAM
Well at least for your locals, however if it's caught by the svc system, it will change either your svc or billing address over.
Secondly, it's considered fraud, and even through you may or may not be prosecuted, is it really worth the hassle?
Easton, PA is in the right Spot Beam. The New York Spot beam has the NYC and Philly locals. Easton, PA is part of the Philly DMA.

Didn't even bother to check in all honesty, i'm not a huge sports fan exept college sports, and for the most part even then i'm too busy here to care much except the final score.
I've seen it done before, but my "personnel" opinion (D* aside) is it's not worth the hassle or the issues that follow if you get caught.
My 2 cents.

I think bottom line here is if you want to see your team, and you're not in the market, you need to get NFL/NBA/Center Ice...whatever since RSNs will not cover games that are covered by DTV's other packages.
But, at least with DTV you can do that. You can't with DISH or any other cable company. So maybe stop bitching about what DTV charges you for, at least you can get it if you see the need to pay for it.
Just my $.02. worth.
