I have on 811 connected to a Yamaha HTR-5840 receiver via the optical connection. On ANY broadcast, when the receiver indicates digital sound, the audio drops in and out constantly, this is not true for PCM. The DVD player is also connected to the 5840, and has no problems at all. The 811 problem just started happening over the last few weeks, no problem before then. I have been told by tech support at DISH, that this is a known problem and nothing can be done about it, it is a cpmpatabillity problem between the 811 and the Yahmaha 5840. THIS IS A BUCH OF HOGWASH in my mind. If that is the case, then this would have been happening since day 1. I have tried everything support has suggested, and finally got fed up and emailed ceo@dishnetwork.com. Hope it does some good. The 811 is leased and I resent paying a monthly fee for a piece of equipment that does not work!

I have am using the 811 with a Yamaha HTR just fine. I would ask for an exchanged 811 receiver. Now, having said that this used to be a big issue, but the SPDIF issues were pretty much resolved a few upgrades back. Also, is this happening on just OTA or Dish HD channels, which channels, there's been an issue on a few of the channels since they were launched, I used to have alot of problems on Rave, but most noticeably I still have hiccups every now and then on TNT-HD.

Leasing is great, because if you owned the receiver and it was past your warranty period you would be stuck with it. In leasing, you have more options and if you want you could always just tell them you don't want it anymore. Kinda hard to do that with a receiver you paid $300 of your hard earned money for.

But that's just my 2 cents.

Also is it on a particular channel. There might be someone with the same receiver as you have that can try it.

And by the way :welcome_s

Not on any particular channel and also occurs on OTA, only when the audio receiver indicates digital. Was terrible last night watching the basketball game on ESPNHD, I reset the 811 at least 6 times during the first hour, as a reset seems to be tech supports answer to everything. Finally gave up and watched it in SD, not an acceptable solution. I have a DVD player connected to the Yamaha through optical and have absolutely no problems with it. I also suggested to tech support to swap the receiver and was told it would not help. I think they are just yanking my chain because they have no answers.

Ask them if a VIP211 will do the same thing? if they say no, tell them you want a swap ASAP!

I may be able to help you with the swap, but I like audio's idea.
