Size Matters

It may sound like a cliché, but it's true more often than not. Men want big TVs; women don't.
Men don't care if that monstrous new widescreen TV wreaks havoc with the décor or even
destroys the living room; women do.

The battle between the sexes has probably slowed HDTV sales more than any other single
factor, with the exception of price. However, both TV makers and room designers are trying
to offer solutions that will bring peace (and a new TV) to the home.

Do you need new furniture to hold this thing? What to do with the old tv? How do you hide it
when company comes, or should you hide it, and now that you've just spent all that money
just to watch endless mind-numbing infomercials, do you really want to flaunt it?

"The day when you could pick up a TV yourself
and all you had to do was just plug it in is over."Help Is On The Way

To help you figure out where to tell the delivery crew to stick it (the tv, that is), take a look HERE (http://www.usatoday.com/life/lifestyle/2006-01-30-big-tvs_x.htm).

Hmm -- an article about widescreen TV's written by a woman. Not all women would agree with her. My daughter has a 60 inch Sony RP LCD set in her family room and loves it. She seldom watches the 27 inch set in her living room.
My daughter in-law loves our 55 inch Sony RP LCD (I live with oldest son and his family).
Yes, room size is a factor. Setup, however, is a no-brainer. My son and I picked up our 55 incher at Circuit City and had it up and running within a half hour of getting it home.
LCD's 36 inches and smaller are light in weight and work right out of the box.
Room size definitely is a consideration, particularly with RP LCD's. Sit too close to one while watching an analog station, and you'll experience the dreaded Screen Door Effect.

My wife is just the opposite. I brought home a 50 inch set on the circuit city no questions exchange policy. She told me to take it back and get the 61. She's great.

The art of the deal. My wife didn't like the way my gear was spread out all over the family room wall (it really was pretty ugly), so I said, "No problem." As long as we're going to do custom cabinets (roughly $20K worth), we'll upgrade the gear or we'll be building for yesterday's needs. 61" DLP, new receiver, A/C conditioner, and a HTPC.

I'd much rather watch movies at home than out in a theater these days.
