View Full Version : Satellite Info Error...but satellite does not seem to be the problem

I have an R10 DirecTV/TiVo unit, and it is telling me that it is unable to acquire information from the satellite ("Satellite Info Error"). It shows me a progress bar at 0 percent for a while and then gives me the error. If I choose to try again I go through the same cycle. I have reset the system -- through menus, the red button behind the access card door, and by pulling the power cord, with no change in the situation.

However, this isn't just a satellite problem...I live in an apartment complex where the dish is managed by Qwest and shared between tenants, and other tenants have no problems. Furthermore, if I go into the Test Satellite Signal area (under Settings, Satellite), I have around 90 on both inputs (fluctuates slightly, but only by a few points). Strangely though, if I go to System Test, it says Sat In Signal 1 is 0 percent, while Sat In Signal 2 is 90 percent. If I switch inputs (put the line from 1 into 2 and from 2 into 1), I still get the same results - 1 is 0, 2 is 90.

At this point I'm thinking that somehow Sat Input 1 on my receiver is toast...in one place it says it is fine, but at another it says it can't get a signal. This unit is only a month old! I've got a Qwest tech coming out in a couple days, but they said if it turns out to be a problem with the DirecTV/TiVo unit, they are going to charge me for the service call (!!!) so I'd be very appreciative if anyone has any suggestions.

More that likely the input one is toast if the problem had switched tuners with the swap of the cables then I would have said that it might be a cable or switch problem but with you switching cable for in 1 to in 2 it is more than likely a tuner that has failed with the R10. If you explain this in detail to the CSR that you have swapped the cables from Tuner 1 to tuner 2 and the problem stayed on tuner 1 even after a reboot by pressing the red button next to the access card then you can probably get them to send you a replacement reciever if yours is still under the 90 day warrenty if the warranty has expired the only way for them to replace it at no cost to you is if you have the service plan with D* and if you have that then the service call would not cost you anyway. But if you do get them to send you a replacement then be aware that it is possible that you could get an R15 the only way to know what you would get is by a service call and having a tech bring the replacement out but it is getting to now where that is not a promsise that you will not get the R15.

Thanks for the response. By the way, I should have mentioned in my original post that this unit was running OK for about a month before this problem started, and I haven't changed anything at all.
