I live in an apt. building and have directv service. I bought an R15 and am trying to set it up. For testing purposes, I've plugged my 1 coax cable directly into the DVR and am going through the setup process. It detects my satellite and gets to the final screen where it is supposed to pull the guide information down. When I get there it just sits at 0% and never downloads guide info.

I know I need to set my R15 to destack, but I can't get to that screen until I get passed the setup, which I cannot do.

Is there a way to get to the destack menu and bypass the initial setup? What am I doing wrong.

I'm not a R15 guy but can you press MENU or something like that to get to the units menu? I know on the Tivos you could get to the menus even while the guide data was downloading. There must be some way as without the destacker turned on you'll never get guide data.

EDIT: Take a look at this post, se if it helps: http://www.dbstalk.com/showpost.php?p=506901&postcount=18

No, it won't let me get to the menu while it's in setup mode. I'm looking for a way around the default setup process. Any suggestions?

Boot the unit with NO SAT line hooked up...

It should eventualy get to a point where you can continue even though you don't have a sat line hooked up.

I think the problem is that the R15s stop sending a signal to the SAT if they do not detect it at first power up. And it doesn't keep checking - just checks once and then ignores that input. I would try unpluging for 30 secs, hook up the SAT feed, then power back up. This might work - it did for me.....

Nope, it didn't work. I tried unplugging it for 30 seconds and powering back up without sattelite hookup. I also tried doing the same with the sattelite hookup.

I always gets back to the same screen where it's trying to pull down guide info and just stays at 0%.

Still looking for a way around that.
