Well I contacted Dish to setup my service.

I wanted the DishHD Bronze package. They said it might be late March or early April until I can get it installed. I just got a new house, and I'm not going to go a month and a half without TV service.

My local cable company does not offer HD, but it looks like I'll be going with them anyway :-(

Have you tried Directv having their service with some HD is better to me than cable with no HD. I have had D* sd for 9 years, I have not gotten hd with them yet but I know now that it is in my future I can never see myself going back to cable.

I thought about DirecTV,but I've heard the HD is crappy.

What really shocks me is that a huge company like Dish cannot support new customers effectively. I mean, I call up telling them I want to buy their service today, and then they can't install until possibly April? Now I know there are equipment/installer problems..but they should have that taken care of. It's shocking to me.

The real bummer is that my old address has mediacom cable, which is awesome. I got an HD DVR for only $12.95/month..no $300 up front fee.

Directv HD is no worse than DISH HDLITE and they have working MPEG4 receivers available.

You could always try a local retailer/installer, Radio Shack or the like, rather than going directly through Dish HQ.

Other than that, enjoy cable. I understand they have fantastic service and never raise prices.

Radio Shack is a Dish Network retailer and has a new offer of 24 hour installation for new customer. I don't think that will be possible if you want the new vip622, but should be feasible with any other receiver for next day install.

Thanks, I'll look into that!

Thanks for the tip.

I was able to get a 4 room install for the 20th of Feb. 2 TVs with HD (2 Vip211), and 1 TV with DVR, 1 standard. :D

I got the BronzeHD package, with my local channels, total monthly of $70.97

Thanks!

Directv HD is no worse than DISH HDLITE and they have working MPEG4 receivers available.I thought the "HDLITE" monicker refers to DirecTV's HD Quality? Are they now both crappy?

I do understand this... When I first moved into my new house several years ago, I called to schedule cable and was put in the queue. I was talking to my neighbors and found they were told it would be 6 months! So I called back, and sure enough they told me the same thing... I asked why they didn't tell me this when I first called, and they had no answer.

Long story short, the cable company for whatever reason had declined to do what all the other utilities (phone, electric, water) had done and run cables prior to the road paving and sidewalk cementing... so they hadn't even run lines into this development and *that* was the 6 month holdup!

I promptly called a local Dish installer, and had Dish installed just a few days later! There are a LOT of Dishes and some DirecTV dishes in my neighborhood all because the cable company dropped the ball bigtime.

I've been very happy with Dish, so I'm glad things worked out the way they did for me... but I would have been a cable customer back then IF they hadn't been so ineffectual and non-communicative.

Quick question for you. How much were you paying for MediaCom and what did you all have? Thanks.

I paid about $110 a month. That included Digital Cable with Starz, The HD Pak, and Video on Demand (including Starz which is awesome). My box was a dual tuner HD DVR. That price also included my 5.0mbps internet. Pretty hard to beat if you ask me. :)

I think that the install is a function of local "contracted" installers?
Here in NM that is what I have found and when Dish sent out the idiots last year to install my 811 they screwed it up big time!
It took 5 calls and 2 days off from work to get it all working ok!
So this time when I called to upgrade to the 211 (all they had was a 411) it was a different company that came out!
They did a great job.:D
WTP? Call them again! And tell them if they can't get installed before April you will go to D** or cable:eek2: they just might change there tune!
