"Somebody up there loves you". So, DirecTV wants me to think of them as God. I'm not going to burn down a foreign embassy but that does rub me the wrong way everytime I see the TV commercial.

Nah, this one doesn't bug me. Here's a brief history of commercials that bugged me:

Chevy's "LIKE A ROCK" when I was fighting my dealer about some chronic warranty issues that I had to pay for.
All the danged weight-loss commercials.
Everyone will be a millionarie type lottery ads
Toothpaste will give you a perfect smile, no matter how messed up your teeth are.
Only women eat chocolate
Playing a doctor on TV makes you qualified to endorse a product.
Not found in any store is a selling point.
Women love doing housework and invite friends over to help or watch.
People who eat fast food are lean, attractive and photogenic.

So, I guess the DirecTV commercial doesn't bug me. What did irritate me last year was DirectTV calling me at the house wanting me to upgrade my account and purchase equipment which would be obsolete right now.

The song is catchy. Its ok. Just ignore the words and it becomes a nice litte ditty.

I thought they were referring to the satelittes in the sky?

;)

Whats offensive about that? I'm pretty sure they arent trying to imply any reference to any religious belief, that seems to be all on you...

Not nearly as much as any commercial about feminine hygiene, any commercial about or funded by any political cause or candidate, any commercial about any prescription drug, any commecial about weight-loss, hair-growth, any commercial about a show on the WB network, and any commercial that contains a song by Led Zeppelin or The Rolling Stones. :icon_bb:

Most people have more important things to worry about.

I just figured they where talking about the sat's in the sky. Never once thought they where saying they are god nor anything even close to that.

Anyone notice that they have the satellite pointing the wrong way in the commercial?

I'm a believer and it does not offend me.

I agree with durl, its a lousy ad, as have most of DirecTV's ads been. It it time to take off the gloves and present the clear advantages of DBS over to previous generation's technolgy.

They're clearly referring to the satellites...it's playing into the campy/magical aspect of getting programming from the sky.

However..what is offensive on TV? All...and I do mean ALL...of the weight loss ads. The pills, potions and plans that are nothing more than rip-off schemes. Every company that sells pills claiming to make you lose weight should have their CEO marched out of its headquarters in handcuffs and leg chains.

I can't honestly say I've ever found any commercial offensive.

If they really loved me they'd stop downrezzing the HD channels and go back to making Tivo their DVR...oh and make the 6.2 update available on the HR10-250. :D

Must be a reference to all of the religious stations they have on the system.

No if they really loved us they would lower their prices instead of raising them ;)

I don't find it offensive, even if it has that Randy Newman-esque jingle. ;) BTW, USA Today had an article yesterday on E*'s "My TV Sucks" ad campaign, and how it was offending a lot of people. They've since changed it to "stinks". My parents still think "sucks" is a very dirty word.

What do they think about vacuum cleaner ads then?

I hope you're joking. If not, this is a clear example of what is wrong with the country.

You know, I would have expected this thread on April 1st. It's the E* ad campaigns I find offensive (and always have) because of their "in your face" attitude. D* at least takes the high road, touting its good points instead of slamming the competition.

But, as to your original post... GET A GRIP!

I think its offensive to any parent that watches a football game with their 6 year old and then has to explain what penile erectile dysfunction is.

Whats even worse is I still cant throw the ball through the gosh darn tire!

Okay Okay...
I think that this one has gone far enough....

Bottom line... it is an advertising campaign.... If you are unhappy with it, call DirecTV and let them know.
If you very unhappy with it, switch to a different carrier.

The Bottom Bottom line.... everyone is entitled to their opinion.... And that opinion doesn't have to match your's or mine, or anyone elses....
