View Full Version : Buy vs Lease question
Looking at adding another HD box.
Options are: Buy now; net cost $0
$4.99 mirror charge
Lease next month; net cost $0 (assuming same as purchase)
$4.99 lease fee
If I buy, warranty is only 90 days, if leased, warranty is DTV's problem, right?
This making the lease more attractive, or am I missing something?
Current rebate is only good till 2/28/06, new rebate offer starts 3/1/06.

Depends on what you do with your box. Many here like to hack theirs to add features, upgrade the hard disk to get more hours, etc... none of which can be done on leased receivers.

Also as of right now if you lease say the R15 DVR you can't upgrade the HD. Well at least no one has found a way as of yet.

How will they know that my leased HDtivo has been upgraded to a bigger drive or similar things done to it? (barring me returning it for any reason of course)
In other words, what prevents us from upgrading then returning to original condition upon return?
And alig2, if i can get HDtivo at only 5 bucks rental, I'd get TWO more units. Something tells me it's a bit more than that.
